Jeb Bush, with cash and clout, pushes contentious school reforms

Nov 27 (Reuters) - Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush soared to rock star status in the education world on the strength of a chart.

A simple graph, it tracked fourth-grade reading scores. In 1998, when Bush was elected governor, Florida kids scored far below the national average. By the end of his second term, in 2007, they were far ahead, with especially impressive gains for low-income and minority students.

Those results earned Bush bipartisan acclaim. As he convenes a star-studded policy summit this week in Washington, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential education reformers in the U.S. Elements of his agenda have been adopted in 36 states, from Maine to Mississippi, North Carolina to New Mexico.

Many of his admirers cite Bush's success in Florida as reason enough to get behind him.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since election day and I am already sick to death of hearing about jeb bush. I mean it. They have already picked him just like they picked romney. The handwriting is on the wall and I swear I don’t know how to stop it.
These people are like creatures of the night waiting, waiting to drain whatever lifeblood we have left to feed their power.

Well, unless caught with a live boy or a dead girl, he’s going to be in the headlines. And who knows, he might even win.

It’s an nightmare. I want it to stop. How long before we are told that only Jeb can beat Democrat X? How long before Ann Coulter tells us this?

Hmmmm. How is that going to work?

We know the drive-by media would love to run their guy against ol' Jeb, but wouldn't it make the lib lackeys' heads explode to support a Bush even for just the primaries?

I would say it’s official in that the GOPe apparently now believes they can tell the entire conservative base to go jump in a lake and somehow win by pealing off huge segments of leftwing voters. As I’ve said in the past......the ballot box has become a worthless lost cause.

If Jeb Bush gets the GOP nomination for president in 2016, I’ll probably vote for Obama.

HEY just because he thinks it’s just gym dandy to let everybody in who cant pay their way after they get here (and expects the makers to foot the bill for ‘em after the comfortably settle in) doesn’t make him an unfit candy......course it doesn’t make him one the makers cant give the foot to either....

Now if his platform includes changing the immigration quota formula...i.e. we let in 8 law abiding scientists, veture capitalists, industrial engineers, businessmen ETC....to 2 welfare ready folk, I SAY go you JEB.

Oh yeah another thing, Jeb has to make Rush, Ann Coulter, Bill Whittle, COLS North and West and Grover cabinent level members of the admin. .......that’d show his brain and heart are in the right place and that he loves our country.....LET’S WATCH AND SEE....

Maybe the DC crowd thinks crazy Hillary will run, and decided it will take a cool head with a hot resume and good poll numbers to shut her down?

Hillary would be a shoe in with even Republicans, which is a sad state of affairs. After all McCain thinks she hung the moon over China.

As I understand it, Jeb’s raised gobs of money for his foundation on the subject of education, but while he was governor he did nothing to institute the most basic reforms: phonics-based reading instruction and a traditional math approach.

Am I the only one who thinks that education shouldn’t be an issue at the national level? I seem to recall another presidential candidate who, when asked why he was running, said he wanted to be “the education president.” That was in 1988, and his name was Bush, too.

If Jeb is the best ‘cool head with a hot resume’ we can come up with, we might as well just surrender to the UN now.

They want to lose again.

I'm enjoying telling the non-conservative fundraisers that have called after the election absolutely not.

I've been enjoying the holidays, but plan to find out what the tea parties are doing. If they start now maybe we could get a real candidate, instead of these Republican Dem lites.

Would you send your children to a Communist school?

What do you think a “public” school is?
