Budget Policy: Republicans are being hounded mercilessly to abandon their no-tax pledge to get a deal on the fiscal cliff. So why aren't Democrats facing any pressure to compromise on entitlement spending? Every Republican who happens to bump into a reporter these days is sure to be grilled on tax hikes. [snip] But while GOP leaders have been signaling a willingness to cut a deal — even if it means agreeing to some form of tax hike — Democrats are digging in against any meaningful changes to out-of-control entitlement programs.

If the Republicans are going to cave on taxes and not get any spending cuts, they should:

1) Tell the Dems if they want to return to the Clinton tax rates, they’ve got it. But that means all brackets, not just the top.
2) Address the small business issue by setting up a new “small business” tax classification allowing small business owners to separate out their business income from personal income which will be taxed at the regular rates.
3) Tell the nation what spending reductions they’ve asked for and let the Dems kill the spending cuts.
4) Take the class warfare game up a notch by assessing a net worth tax on everyone with assets over $100 million. Call it the billionaires levy. Let Warren Buffet pay a 10% tax on his $46 billion of net worth since he finds the tax system so unfairly balanced toward the wealthy. Let Barbara Streisand, Tom Hanks, Michael Moore, Oprah, Will Smith and the rest of the entertainment elites with net worth under $1 billion but over $100 million pay 5% of the their net worth to the state they love.

In the 2014 elections run on the platform of - we did it your way and it failed. Two years of paying significantly higher rates, plus losing deductions, might cause the young upwardly mobile urban progressives to take a harder look at the value of the government programs they love.

When 8 of the top 10 wealthiest zip codes vote for the Dems in the last election I say let them have the higher taxes they voted for.

Along those lines, would be nice to have your 1040 automatically put in the amount of taxes paid in the previous one or two years so when you do the current year’s taxes you could quickly see how it’s going up, not down. For the idiot voters too dumb to see it without help - at least for 5 minutes they’d be stuck thinking about how much “more” they got from Uncle . . . or how much more was being redistributed away from them.

The best way to pressure the Dims into spending cuts is for the Repubs to stand fast and not give an inch - it was a Dim idea to write the law that calls for sequestration so they could get away for another year with no budget and steep spending increases and it was a Dim president that signed the law into effect. They asked for it, they got it, let them have it.

Something that is not being addressed in the 'fiscal cliff' negotiations is regulatory reform, especially regarding the energy sector.

If the GOP had any cojones (yeah, I know ...), then approving the Keystone pipeline, opening ANWR and the outer continental shelf for oil and gas exploration, and reining in EPA/DOI overreach should be put on the table in any discussions about raising taxes.

Correction: Line 5: “disciple” corrected to “discipline.”

Where’s The Pressure On Dems To Cough Up Spending Cuts?

Victims of Lawful Plunder

Men naturally rebel against the injustice of which they are victims. Thus, when plunder is organized by law for the profit of those who make the law, all the plundered classes try somehow to enter — by peaceful or revolutionary means — into the making of laws. According to their degree of enlightenment, these plundered classes may propose one of two entirely different purposes when they attempt to attain political power: Either they may wish to stop lawful plunder, or they may wish to share in it.

Woe to the nation when this latter purpose prevails among the mass victims of lawful plunder when they, in turn, seize the power to make laws! Until that happens, the few practice lawful plunder upon the many, a common practice where the right to participate in the making of law is limited to a few persons. But then, participation in the making of law becomes universal. And then, men seek to balance their conflicting interests by universal plunder. Instead of rooting out the injustices found in society, they make these injustices general. As soon as the plundered classes gain political power, they establish a system of reprisals against other classes. They do not abolish legal plunder. (This objective would demand more enlightenment than they possess.) Instead, they emulate their evil predecessors by participating in this legal plunder, even though it is against their own interests.

It is as if it were necessary, before a reign of justice appears, for everyone to suffer a cruel retribution — some for their evilness, and some for their lack of understanding.

The Results of Legal Plunder

It is impossible to introduce into society a greater change and a greater evil than this: the conversion of the law into an instrument of plunder.

Where’s The Pressure On Dems To Cough Up Spending Cuts?

There is NO pressure. Your message WILL NOT BE TAKEN UP BY THE “opposition”/sarcasm PARTY.
