At the Associated Press, Benghazi Is Just a 'PR Disaster'

At the Associated Press, Benghazi Is Just a 'PR Disaster'

Tom Blumer

Well, if the President himself can call it "a bump in the road," why not?

Monday morning at the Associated Press, aka the Administration's Press, presented a story in advance of United Nations ambassador Susan Rice's meeting today with certain Republican senators -- a meeting from which Rice, who engaged in serial falsehood peddling during the weekend after the September 11 Benghazi attack, apparently falsehood-peddling Rice emerged today even worse-off than before. In that story, both the headline and first paragraph of Anne Flaherty's coverage characterized Benghazi as a "PR (public relations) disaster."

Thus, it would appear that Flaherty and the AP's headline writers believe that Benghazi is more about political posturing than finding out the truth about why the administration and its foreign-policy apparatus first allowed four Americans, including ambassador Christopher Stevens, to die, and then, in the weeks before the November general election, lied and obfuscated about what really happened. In other words, it's really a political scandal. The press would certainly would be treating it as such in a Republican or conservative presidency.

Additionally, as might be expected, Flaherty engaged in more than a little historical revisionism (bolds are mine throughout this post):

OBAMA MAY GET CHANCE TO END BENGHAZI PR DISASTER

The White House could finally have its chance to close the books on its Benghazi public relations disaster, as key Republicans signal they might not stand in the way of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to become the next secretary of state.

... Intelligence officials quickly amended their assessment to conclude the attack hadn't been related to other film protests across the Middle East. But that revised narrative was slow to reach the public, prompting Republicans to allege a White House cover-up ahead of the Nov. 6 election.

... One senior GOP Senate aide said Sunday that Republicans hadn't united against Rice and were not convinced she was worth going after. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the aide was not authorized to speak publicly on internal GOP deliberations.

Contrary to Ms. Flaherty flights of fancy, the CIA knew that Benghazi was a terrorist attack almost immediately, and never, ever thought that Benghazi had anything to do with film protests, because, well, as even the AP briefly acknowledged in a present-tense timeline on October 10 (proof here; the actual story link is now empty), "there are no protests." As to the revised narrative being slow to reach the public, well, gosh, that was because the people like Susan Rice and Jay Carney were relaying the administration's false narrative for well over a week after the terrorist attack. Only after the immediate attention to the story had long died down did the truth start coming out. At that point, the establishment press, including the AP, acted as if the news wasn't important enough to merit meaningful attention or coverage.

Speaking of lack of coverage, as of shortly after 4 p.m., as seen here, the AP carried the Monday morning story -- now 33 hours old -- at its "Top News" page. Meanwhile, the the of hot-off-the-presses story about Rice's very unhelpful meeting with GOP senators languishes.

U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice told lawmakers Tuesday that her initial explanation of the deadly Sept. 11 raid in Libya was wrong, but her concession failed to mollify three Republican senators who signaled they would oppose her possible nomination to be secretary of state.

It's almost enough to make you think that the Administration's Press is awaiting instructions as to how to write it up before giving it truly wide attention.

I still wonder who in the administration wanted their ambassador dead, and why.

Here are the questions that the media and Congress SHOULD be asking:

1. Mr President, did your administration give weapons and/or weapon systems to rebels affiliated with Al Queda?

2. Mr President, why, after months of warnings, did your administration fail to secure the US Mission in Benghazi?

3. Mr President, was the Ambassador working for the State Department or the CIA while he was in Benghazi?

4. Mr President, what was the purpose of the mission that Ambassador Stevens was on?

5. Mr President, were you notified at any time during the evening of September 11th of the request for assistance from the Ambassador or the CIA personnel?

6. Mr President, was anyone in the White House notified at any time during the evening of September 11th of the request for assistance from the Ambassador or the CIA personnel?

Just a start....

It’s because Chris Stevens was a homosexual. If he wasn’t a homosexual the MSM would be covering this, but because the MSM hates homosexuals they are covering this up!

Ambassador to Guatemala, John Gordon Mein, was murdered by communist terrorists on August 28, 1968.

Ambassador to the Sudan, Cleo A. Noel Jr., was murdered by Islamic terrorists on March 1, 1973.

Ambassador Rodger P. Davies, was murdered by terrorists on August 19, 1974 in Cyprus.

Ambassador to Lebanon, Francis E. Meloy, Jr., was murdered by Islamic terrorists on June 16, 1976.

Ambassador to Afghanistan, Adolph Dubs, was murdered by Islamic terrorists on February 14, 1979.

One more murder of an American ambassador is not reported as a blow to our country’s power and prestige, it’s just a personal PR disaster for Obama. I cannot understand how the media are so worshipful of that drug-addled communist that they see everything through the lens of how it affects Obama’s power grab.

Why did Obama and Hillary use American personnel, money, equipment and facilities to have Gaddafi raped and murdered? What was our pressing national interest in overthrowing the Libyan government and killing Gadaffi? The Democrats wet themselves over Reagan and the contras. But Obama gets a pass from them? There’s money for the Democrats involved in this, and that means money for the old media.

how about.

Where was the President during this attack?
Did the President watch these attacks in the situation room?
If not then why not?
Did the President go back to sleep as the attacks were going on?

The President said he was not informed, why not and why has no one been fired?

Why did the President even two weks later say to the UN this was over a video which he then declared he knew it was a terrorist attack in the debate the next day?

Why ddi the President go to Vegas if he knew this was a terrorist attack?

WHRE WAS THE PRESIDENT DURING THIS ATTACK?

Who gave the stand down orer and why no one order to help these Amerians as they watched them die?

These are the questions too which need to be asked but finding a media outlet who actually can understand their real ob is hard to find these days

Absolutely nothing, obviously.

You are barking up the right tree. More questions:

6) why weren't the swift action rescue teams able to be deployed since there was ample time, requests for assistance, and highly / specifically trained resources for this very scenario?

7) Why was the CIA compound secured and then cleared out within 2 days of the attack but the consulate was left unsecured for over 3 weeks?

8) Why hasn't there been any response to the attack? Do you have the culprits in custody at GITMO yet?

9) What has been done to bolster our diplomatic asset security around the globe and ensure we have tested action plans for emergencies?

Your approach is a good one. Shame them into covering it. That’s precisely what the left would do.

... One senior GOP Senate aide said Sunday that Republicans hadn't united against Rice and were not convinced she was worth going after.

And that's a huge problem - it seems that the Repubs NEVER seem to think one of the enemy is worth going after. On the flip side, the Dims go after anyone and everyone whether there is a problem or not. Can't win a war if you never fire a shot and the enemy is on full auto 24/7.
