I don't buy the conspiracy theories of “them” trying anything. Part of being old is the realization that most all government and all politicians of either party are incompetent fools.

IMHO you are very wrong. Every "popular movement" of the last hundred years was carefully orchestrated by politicians for their own ends. Winners are selected and the popular media is used to demonize and isolate the chosen losers. In America white men have been selected to lose, because we have the most wealth to loot. We will not be permitted to ignore the outcome.
