Yes, Romney Was the Problem

The GOP establishment and some conservative pundits, such as Ann Coulter, are in full defense mode, claiming that Romney is not responsible for losing to an incumbent responsible for perhaps the most damaging fiscal crises in our nation’s history. Don’t believe it. Romney IS responsible for wasting a billion dollars to carry out an issue-free campaign full of simple-minded platitudes. Indeed, Coulter is leading the charge with her recent column titled, Don’t Blame Romney. It’s sweet to watch Coulter defend her darling Romney, but let’s get real.

The reality is that Romney was one of the worst GOP presidential candidates in modern times. He was not the first choice of most conservative voters but he managed to rise through the ranks in the primary due to conservatives being split 4-5 ways, but also due to a slew of endorsements from conservative leaders and groups that had no business endorsing him – such as Ann Coulter. Repeatedly, Coulter assured conservatives that Romney was one of us and that he would be the “best possible candidate” to face Obama. But as any conservative from Massachusetts knew, Romney was a liberal at heart who, as Governor, led the nation in passing three of the left’s most sacred issues: Same sex marriage, Cap and Trade, and government control of health care.

But the Romney forces were clever. Beginning in 2004, they created a half dozen PACs to give money to conservative and GOP entities all over the country. I’ve reviewed these disclosures and hundreds of GOP and conservative entities benefitted from Romney’s largess. In other words, he bought the support of many “conservative leaders” and used that support to give himself “cred” among conservative voters. It was a phony image though and it’s shameful that so many conservative leaders went along with this ruse.

And he was labeled a Right-Wing Extremist. But we were told not nominate a real conservative because he would be labeled a Right-Wing Extremist.

cornered? who the heck is cornered? I give up on people who ONLY want to blame Romney and can't get past the hatred. I could have the same conversation with my dog and get the same results. Romney Derangement Syndrome is running rampant and I am getting bored with people who won't get past it.

If you want to ignore the facts which are clearly in front of you then go ahead ... I give up. If that's "cornered" than so be it.

we didn’t have any kind of bench.

that said, I love they way we turn on our guys..it’s always the case.

Romney was NOT the frigg’n problem..

the country has changed, the populace has changed. They want this direction.. at least 53 or 54 per cent of them want the direction he is taking us. simple math, there is more of them and less of us.

we sat their and giggled at the O campaign youtube videos and the ladyparts stuff, the Sandra Fluke war on women stuff...and it all worked. and again, our people quoted polls stating Hispanics were conservatives with family values...

Rush is right on this...

Americans want Santy Claus.... it did not matter who our guy was...

it will take collapse for the idiots to wake up.

Look... Roosevelt is still referred too with reverence, as a type of savior... He sits next to Lincoln and Washington as one of the great presidents, according to schools and the MSM... and he PROLONGED and made the problem worse.

collapse coming... we still need to fight the good fight of course... I won’t give up... but I have realistic expectations now.

What part of you doesn’t get Romney has no interest in conservatives? STAY focused and realize Romney IS the problem - ALL of his own doing! Don’t blame conservatives - it’s the liberal mantra to point blame instead of accepting blame.

Thanks, I think. But about the five bullet points that began your post: they came up onscreen as blanks. What meaning of?

I don’t think Romney was the problem. A smarter electorate would’ve elected him in a landslide.

The problem is “the 47%”. Not that Romney said it ... but that he’s mostly right about it. There are large groups of people on-the-take, most all of which are automatic Democrats. They’re not a majority ... but Democrats have convinced enough of the rest that the 47% deserve to be coddled.

It took 4-years of Carter for people to wake-up and vote Reagan. It’ll take at least 8-years of Obama for the same realization, if it comes at all.

I disagree with this analysis. The problem is the media, the education system, and the balkanization of our nation. Romney was a good man.

Spare the pics from now on

And spare her column/her words and hype. She's a useful tool FOR the left and the rino's - the enemies of America whose interest is in themselves. When is her next 'rope them in' book coming out?

I happen to agree with you. In 2008, Romney would have been a much better choice than McCain.

BTW, it’s easy enough to play “what-if”. If Romney had lost in 2008, he wouldn’t have been around in 2012; McCain certainly wouldn’t have won our nomination, so maybe we’d have gotten one of our younger conservatives through the process.

Romney wouldn’t have picked Palin for VP. Some suggest that would have been bad, but imagine Palin, with her high approval ratings, finishing out her 4 years as Governor without all the negatives. Imagine her getting a chance to polish up a national resume without the left having a reason to target her before she was ready to defend herself.

She might have gone on to the Senate from Alaska, giving her national exposure, as one of our Tea party young guns.

Maybe McCain did her a disservice by thrusting her into the limelight, and then hamstringing her so she couldn’t get ahead of the liberal smear campaign.

Anyway, like I said, what-ifs are easy.

What was clear was, in a race that was about three things, Romney was on the wrong side on two of them.

Obamacare — Romney could never fight it, having embraced too many of the features with Romneycare.

The Struggling Middle Class - Romney is a rich white guy preaching trickle-down, which while it works, and while he’d be great for the middle class, he didn’t have a message that encouraged the middle class. And he certainly didn’t encourage the poor, and you need at least SOME of the poor to vote for you, not to think you hold them in contempt.

He did have the business competence, although OWS and the liberal media did a good job making that sound like a negative as well.

Romney didn’t match up well against Obama in the area this fight was held. I’m not sure any of our candidates would have; I don’t think Gingrich would have done as well. While knowing Romney lost makes me wish we could have seen a Santorum/Obama contest, I doubt Santorum would have won either. It just would have been entertaining.

Maybe Rick Perry was too dumb, but I still think he would have had a great shot at beating Obama, being on the right side of every issue of importance to the voters, and (to the chagrin of many conservatives) being an acceptable candidate to a large number of hispanics, without clearly pandering with amnesty.

Losing interest? Shows a wimp who knows he doesn’t have a chance. NEVER forget conservatives can smell deception before it turns the corner. We are hardwired to expose the soft snares.

Romney is only disliked because he is not a republican..
He is a posuer.. a shill.. a phoney.. a fake.. a covert operative..
HE’s A SPY.. double agent.. hes not a democrat either.. but a tool..
I would go as far as to say he is a TRAITOR...

Make excuses all you want but Romney lost.

Going back to 2011 conservatives and this site as one of them said Romney was not a winning candidate.

We were ignored.

The GOP-e machine ran huge propaganda campaigns not aimed at getting Romney elected but to put out the false perception that Romney was winning and that in fact it was a landslide coming.

The pols and pundits who perpetrated this fraud need to have their feet held to the fire.

We need to name names as well.

I will start with one in the conservative radio media: Hugh Hewitt.

He even wrote a book a number of years ago called Mormon in the Whitehouse and the support and move for Romney was long term and consistent.

They belittled conservatives and used the phrase and working hypothesis of “most conservative electable candidate”.

Key being “electable”.

But they were wrong. Proven wrong. They were told in advance they were wrong.

Today they still are doing the same thing.

The Tea Party ran the 2010 campaign and had large influence in direct suppport for Scott Walker and Wisconsin issues.

Those campaigns won.

GOP-e Romney did not win.

2012 GOP-e said for Tea Party to stay out of it.

George Bush won twice under the same constraints as Romney.

GOP-e told him to stay out of it (even though he is GOP-e).

The losers told the winners to stay out of it and let the pro big boys play.

The pro big boys with billions lost.

These fellows and gals are not our enemy. But they are not competent to win.

This needs to be known and communicated to them.

Can't you just imagine this was the scene with Obama and his Commie staff after stealing the election through voter fraud- while Conservatives blame Romney, argue, point fingers and try to figue out how to suck up to minorities the 'next time'?

We were presented with a failed candidate from the start who couldn’t even beat the loser who ran against Zer0 the last time. I voted for him, and Missouri delivered their paltry electors for him, but he was about my last choice. Check that, my last choice was Zer0 but that was NEVER going to happen.
