The lesson here: Don’t trust the Federal government, even if you have something in writing.

Problem is the bureaucrats are still getting their paychecks. When it actually affects them then they’ll realize they’ve killed the golden goose.

“the nation’s first federally recognized marine wilderness.

I have been through this area. It seems like all the coastline is some type of protected area from Monterey up to this area.
This seems unnecessary. Just another attack on human activity and private enterprise.

The Lunny family, which owns the oyster farm, was among a group of families that sold their ranch lands to the National Parks Service in the 1970s to protect them from developers, with the understanding they would get 40-year-leases renewed in perpetuity.

If the "understanding" was not in writing, they are screwed. I can't believe people are this stupid. I was involved in a similar land sale in Tomales Bay nearby and am very familiar with the bureacracy with unlimited funds at their disposal, and the illegal restrictions they can impose which they then claim reduces the value of the land and the purchase price.

The Pacific Foundation has been very successful in fighting both the state and federal governments when they play the illegal abuse of power thing. I hope this family is getting help from them.

If the Feds didn’t shut them down, California would have. I bet it was a joint operation.

Oh, and the US EPA wants to make the California Cap and Trade system effective nationwide, thus any business doing business in CA (or is tied to CA businesses) would have to abide by CA’s Cap and Trade system.

Comments on the Marin IJ site indicate that the Obama-voting Marinites are outraged by Salazar’s decision...but they still can’t understand how their own votes led directly to it.
