The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved an amendment that reaffirms Washington's commitment to Japan in its territorial dispute with China over islands in the East China Sea.
The measure was attached Thursday to the National Defense Authorization Bill for Fiscal Year 2012, which is still being debated in the Senate - the upper body of Congress.
The amendment says that the U.S. acknowledges Japan's administration over the Senkaku Islands, but does not take a position on the ultimate sovereignty of the territory. It also notes U.S. opposition to any efforts to coerce, threaten or use force to resolve the territorial dispute.
The resource-rich islands are known as the Daioyu Islands in China.
U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the defense bill after it passes the House of Representatives.
Don’t tell me. Barry told Japan, “We got your back.” ROTFL!
Unanimous or not, Japan would be a fool to believe it.
What could possibly go wrong....
Perhaps we should have a talk with Japan about their recent UN vote on Palestine. My patience wears thin with supposed ‘allies’ who take our money and give nothing in return.
Japan ought to remember: less than two months before Obama threw him under the bus, Hosni Mubarak sat in the White House with his “friend”, the occupant of the Oval Office.
Obamugabe makes promises and then breaks them.
If the Japanese government isn’t run by profoundly stupid men they’ll take what is said by the current regime in washington with a smile, make all the correct noises and signs of appreciation for the “unwavering support” of obama and co. while going full steam ahead with following their own plans for military operations against a numerically superior foe.
Namely the manufacture of both tactical and strategic nuclear weapons as well as nuke subs for retaliatory strike capability.
The chicoms aren’t going to keep playing game for much longer and then Japan is on her own.
