S'ok. He doesn't have to. I can write him in. He's my standard issue protest vote.

Dogs like him, and he's got zero chance of winning.

There’s probably no difference in them.

And this Texan and all the members of my family say NO! to Bush. They can all live here if they wish but don’t run for office.

I had Staples on my short list for Lt. Governor. If he wants Governor instead, maybe he has national aspirations, who knows? If he runs for the position, I'll pay attention, as long as it doesn't distract me from Lt. Gov and Speaker.

It goes like this: Whatever bills the governor wants filed, he chooses a Representative or Senator to carry the bills for him.

He tells the Lt. Governor what to do and Lt. Gov. does his bidding.

Make no mistake, the governor runs the state.

At some point, Susan Combs, State Comptroller, will run for governor, I think. She is a good friend of Staples, so maybe they will get together. She would make a good Lt. Governor and she knows about the money. Actually, that ticket would be fantastic. She was Ag. Commissioner before Staples. It's also possible they could have the ticket the other way - she runs for governor and he runs for Lt. Governor. Texas would be safe and powerful either way.

One must file as a “write-in” candidate in TX within 45 days of the general election. There are no other write-in provisions. It’s a nearly impossible hurdle with so many uninformed voters.

They’ve done enough damage. At least the Kennedys were not carpetbaggers.

Perhaps Perry supported Dewhurst because he wanted to get him out of State government. He would be less of a pain to Perry if he were in Washington and certainly couldn’t have been a worse Republican Senator than Kay Bailey.

Combs has been considered a liberal Republican, a former aide to KBH, but she endorsed Santorum, not Perry, in 2012. Combs is about 67, and would hence be 73 if she waits until 2018 to run.

I'd take exception to that. I'm not convinced that Dewhurst isn't the power hitter in Austin, and Perry is the puppet.

If Perry IS against open carry or Constitutinal carry, he needs to go, too.

Staples is running in 2014 for the office of Lieutenant Governor of Texas, with baseball great Nolan Ryan as his campaign chairman.

Ann Richards called the job of TX governor the best job in the world, and then the populace removed her for a Bush, who wouldn’t finish a second term that she was denied.

He remains my protest vote.

Darn, are you sure? I have known her for years, but I am now 80, so I guess I'm not keeping up with time. I don't know how I became 80, so maybe she sneaked up on me and got older, too. Maybe she will run for governor this next election. She has never had a problem being elected. She is so tall, she towers over men. She has a big ranch and is another horse riding person.

Drinking Annie was a discrace.

And a democrat, but I repeat myself.

Of course she would think it's the best job in the world. Dollars, round the clock security, a driver... nothing important, really, to do. What's not to like?

I knew that he was in the Navy reserves, but what did he do as Spec. Ops?

I knew that he went into military intelligence, but Special Ops are the people who do field work for intelligence, they turn over information to MI, it doesn’t make the the MI people Special Ops.

Are there special circumstances for military (I’ll be retired in June) who are citizens of Texas and stationed elsewhere?

You fail to mention the school girls had an ‘opted out’ if wanted but I’m sure that was an oversight. It’s your state, enjoy it while you can as the grass roots does the fighting.

Not at first. Even then it was complicated and stupid

Then again, so what?

You should not have to beg the government not to experiment on your child!! They should have all been lined up at a wall and shot.

Dewhurst can have his own personal opinion, but he's going to support the governor in what the governor wants to do. To my knowledge, Perry is a strong gun guy and wouldn't want to pass a law that restricted gun possession in any way (except for convicted criminals, of course).
