This week, when speaking at children's toy K'NEX factory in Pennsylvania, President Obama urged the House of Representatives merely to pass what Harry Reid's Senate has passed and send him the bill.
The Senate has already passed a bill to keep income taxes from going up on middle-class families. Thats already passed the Senate. Your member of Congress like Allyson and Chaka, other Democrats in the House, they're ready to go. They're ready to vote on that same thing. And if we can just get a few House Republicans on board, we can pass the bill in the House. It will land on my desk, and I am ready -- I've got a bunch of pens ready to sign this bill.
This implies that the House is intransigent and uncompromising. What Obama neglected to mention is that the House has already passed a comprehensive tax cut package that prevents taxes from going up on middle-class families - it's just that the President and Harry Reid will refuse to even consider it.
The Republican-controlled House passed legislation on a 256 to 171 vote that would extend the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts on income, capital gains and dividends through 2013.Republicans were joined by 20 Democrats in voting for the proposal, which would extend the tax cuts for all income levels.
So to take stock: President Obama wants Republicans to fall in line with legislation that has received only Democrats to vote for it so far. And President Obama wants to flat-out ignore a bill that passed with bipartisan support in the House that accomplishes his stated goal of preventing a tax hike in middle-class families.
And it's the Republicans who are the obstructionists?
It’s either his way or the highway
That's the main narrative. They want to pull a TARP where all the marbles rest on a vote on one bill. Pass it, or we kill this dog
But with a debt of 16 trillion dollars, the days of overspending will soon be coming to an end.
There are two crisis on the horizon, the “fiscal cliff” and America's inability to borrow to pay for all it's spending. Obama and the MSM may frighten the Republicans into voting for tax increases on then”wealthy,” but there is nothing that Obama or the MSM can do to forestall the economic collapse. Obama’s people may riot and loot the stores, but you can only loot the stores once. Then what happens?
The Fed is, in effect, just printing money to pay for Obama reckless spending. This will not end well. Eventually, to quote Obama's pastor and mentor Jeremiah Wright, "America's chickens are coming home to roost!"
AFAIK, the world has never seen hyperinflation in a Western welfare state economy before. It's going to be interesting to watch what happens -- at least if you're a safe distance away from urban areas with large populations that are dependent on gov't transfer payments.
While the Republicans in general don’t support tax hikes, I’m sure that there are some who will reach across the aisle in the spirit of bipartisanship and screw the productive class.
Andi always thought a tax bill had to originate in the House. Silly me!!!!
Republicans in the house need to extend those tax cuts on income made under $250K or even a higher level income under $500K (FOR EVERYONE) citing Buffets recent commends. Those will cuts taxes for most Americans and most voters. In fact someone making $600K would get the cut for $500K of it.
But holding out on those popular tax cuts because they cant extend them for Buffet’s, More’s, Rush’s income over those amounts is suicidal and they will lose just as they did in last years FICA fiasco where they humiliated themselves.
Your statement is wrong, but it is not your fault for believing so. You are a victim of a three card monty from Boehner and the boys. The Republicans do support a tax hike, they just don’t support a tax hike in the RATE. Boehner has come out for a limit on deductions with the support of his members. This means that on April 15, those targeted tax payers are going to pay more in taxes. In plain English that means a raise in taxes. The Democrats have called for a raise in the rate. Again come April 15, those over $250,000 will pay more. They all agree that those over $250,000 are going to pay more, they are only fighting over the how. I’m of the opinion that if one class of people get a tax cut, all classes should get one, and if one class of people get hit than everybody should get hit. Thus I have signed on with Levin, Steyn, Carr for going over the cliff. At least this way the political class will be forced to actually cut government now, not some mythical time in the future.
For the record... I’m for going over the cliff! :)
Most registered R's I know are changing their registration anyway so no worries, one party rule till they take her down.
It's either his way or the highway
No, no -- they'll never cut the crap as long as they're in office. You heard Obama set that pick, and he'll play it until his knees are broken and you stuff one going right over the top of him.
What you do, by refusing to play along or let Boehner play along (I'll say it again -- Boehner's just running away from the media firestorm they've stoked up for us after the "cliff", and he's trying to surrender without having to eat cheese in public), you force these guys out in the open, and they have to take responsibility for their own play. When the economy's roof comes in, they're the only ones standing there with an axe in their hand.
To which we say, "I'll take highway for $2000, Alex."
