Link only...can't get my gosh darned iPad to cooperate. The good news is that much of Palau was spared! Last minute turn indeed, thank you, God.

“costliest” because of overpriced real estate and inflation

Those buildings will basically explode. Sheet metal and 2x4s as missiles. You do not want to be out in the open in that area.

Eyewall hitting the coast now. Hope no one stayed behind, but you know some did, especially since the storm came in further south than forecast.

Yikes!

They were talking about a bad storm there two years ago there that killed over a thousand people....this thing has winds two and a half times that one, so one can only imagine how devastating this is going to be.

I looked up Davao City, south of the track. They have 1.5 million people and the downtown looks sturdy, but you know a lot of the rest are going to have the sheet metal houses.

Woke up 45 minutes ago and already getting rain from the storm here in Cebu City and it’s still a day away.

I called my friends in Kapalong, Mindanao, 3 hours north of Davao City. They survived, but their home has water up to the roof. They put their TV, refrigerator, and bedding in plastic bags, and walked 10 minutes to higher ground, but at least they are OK.

Thank you. I am thankful that they are okay. I hadn’t realized that the storm strengthened again. I imagine our Navy will be on the scene in the aftermath. And I see that the Team Rubicon (Former militaryemt’s and volunteers) are gearing up to head to the area with relief and recovery efforts. The latter has worked for months on the East Coast helping with hurricane Sandy.

I haven't seen a lot in the way of updates on FR, though there has been quite a bit on the web in general.

The situation in parts of Mindano is horrific. I saw this on storm2k.org (taken by the poster from Facebook):

To all my friends who have a good heart: Our hometown in Cateel, Davao Oriental is severely devastated by TYPHOON PABLO, it's beyond words to describe the damage. Victims describe it as the end of the world. It is located 30 minute drive from the site of typhoon Pablo landfall. We all lost our homes, we have not accounted completely all our immediate families. No structures can serve as evacuation center as all buildings are severely wrecked and damaged including among others churches, hospitals and schools. Casualties to date is 56 and is increasing. Injured persons are lying in the streets. Roads going inside the town are un-passable making rescue and relief efforts very hard. People now are starving with no place to go. Electricity and cellfon sites are severely damaged making communication very difficult. No media group has ever entered the town. It has been isolated for more that 30 hours already. Im knocking on you hearts to pls HELP my family and kababayans in my hometown of Cateel, Davao Oriental. WE need among others clean water, ready to eat food, clothes, shelter and medicines, toiletries. I hope the authorities will mobilize quickly to get inside the town. We need you. HELP us pls!!! Oh LORD GOD..pls help us....People are starving

Of family we have heard from, most are ok. One of my wife's cousins had some livestock drowned, another says her house (which only got water "near" in the storm thak killed over 1000 last year) is "a submarine". Another cousin was right in the path of the eyewall, but a little inland - we have not heard anything of him & so we are quite worried...

BTW, if anyone is so inclined, here’s the link to the Philippine Red Cross:

Also, here’s a very interesting article from NASA, with great graphics:

(That last one says the death toll is up to 475 - I saw 500+ somewhere...)
