******* “Many (all?) California cities have cut their police forces by significant numbers. The feds made us release “non violent” offenders from State Prisons due to “overcrowding.” The results are entirely predictable...property crime (mainly daylight burglaries) are WAY up in our peaceful little town” ******

As another FReeper posted on the Bob Costa gun control thread, if only Ted Kennedy didn't own a car.

You should take time to go to a Gun Range and get some training. You don't need to own a gun, you can rent one there and most Gun Safety Classes provide the Firearm and Ammunition.

You might take to it, you never know. Besides, being able to use a Firearm to protect yourself and your Family is a God Given Right that many people throughout the world are denied by their Fascist Governments. You know, just like the Democrat Party wants to impose here.

Id LOVE to go to a gun range, it would be an amazing experience..not sure if they have any around the LA area(Yep, stuck here in looney liberal land) but if there is one I would love to go check it out. Would also love to be a card carrying member of the NRA. I will be damned if these liberal ass clowns take away anyone’s right to owning a firearm. Liberals want to see what life is like in a supposed “Gun control environment” they should check out Chicago, where 7 people were killed yesterday..yeah all in the most gun control city in the nation..I dare any of these liberals to ask the gang bangers for their guns

I'm in South Orange County. We have a couple of indoor Ranges here, so I'm sure there are some your way as well.

When I was a kid we just drove up Angeles Crest Highway to the Mountains to go shooting. Ah, the good old days.

I know this sounds dumb, but if you want to buy a Hand Gun, you have to take a written Test to get a Gun Safety Card that is good for five years, at a cost of $25 of course.

Any handgun you might want to purchase has to be on an approved list. Welcome to the Soviet Union, West Coast Edition.

If you buy any firearm, pistol or rifle, there is a 10 day waiting period, a transfer fee and there is also a limit on magazine sizes, holding a maximum of ten cartridges.

As for me, someday I'm moving to one of the Free States where a Citizen can carry, concealed or open without people getting their panties in a bunch and where the Law respects the Constitution.

I still haven't found one with our Weather though. Humidity, Hurricanes and Tornadoes aren't my style.

My hubby doesn’t leave the home without protection. He’s been that way for most of our years being married. Only reason he didn’t have them sooner, he was in college; living on a budget while trying to get into law enforcement; which he did.
(Now, I do like he does- I didn’t use to..though, in Va., I took classes and the training that I needed. The guys at the range were really supportive as well as respectful, to me. Of course, hubby taught classes there, too. I use to travel often. I was very safe with my surroundings and didn’t take a weapon all of the times. As the crime escalated, I felt good to have it with me.

We don’t live very far from where the guy kidnapped the women at the Florida mall and killed them. Things here are crazy. Home invasions and robberies at stores, gas stations and malls. The news rolls out story after story involving crimes. In Va., it was bad there too.

We plan to move away about 125 miles north to a smaller area. I have a house there/just got to get it ready next year. The one here can be put on the market ( it’s paid for so we can let it sit until a buyer).

( One time in Va., at a traffic light, a man tried to get into my car at the passenger side. Of course, all doors were kept locked. He came very close. I could see his hands. He got one warning. It only takes a less than a second for your brain to react for self defense. Best to go through training, you just never know. I have been trying to convince my younger sister, to go take classes. Hubby and I have offered to take her to pick a handgun that suits her needs. She is thinking about it).

Don’t let it be known that you have guns or anything else of value for that matter.Make your place uninviting to a burglar in any way you can

We do our best to look like the poorest folks on the block, so to speak. Old cars, a couple in the back yard, trim I have been meaning to paint for a couple of years, let some of the shrubbery get unkempt, etc. I don't even let family members know what is here. There are some I don't particularly trust.

First things cut are services essential to taxpayers, not the highly-paid boards, commissions, advisory councils etc. that politicians use to reward their friends and supporters.

Precisely. The real 'fat' in the system isn't on the front lines, it's in office buildings.

That may be a point to consider, most of the thugs and thug-lite’s are all about “easy”. Adversity of any kind is something to stay away from.

Just take a look at Chicago. It has become one of the deadliest major cities on the entire globe

Hussein did such a good job in his own city that he was hired to do the same for the nation. There were some deadly daytime home invasions here recently and it turned out to be illegals. But, hey, amnesty for all!!!!

Ours has changed from good salt of the earth neighbors to whiney rich snot nosed libs so it doesn't take much to look poor against them with their housekeepers and yardmen. As for trusting family members, I trust them to rat us out at the first sign of boxcars. They know we have nothing but they'd do it out of their it's all about MEEEE! attitude. Relatives have been my biggest concern with the change in government.

I’m always armed ... because I’m old enough to consider ridding the society of murderous scum is a civic duty when confronted. We didn’t lock our doors in the fifties because soceity had so many with that same belief back then ... returning vets seem to see the world differently than handout Harrys and Harriets.

Sadly, there simply are not enough police to keep up with it all.

Cops do not equal protection. I repeat, Cops do NOT equal PROTECTION

Sadly, the cops have prevented the same number of crimes as before. NONE

there is not enough money to pay for adequate police protection any longer.

Since when do police protect anyone? They are Law Enforcement. That denotes a reactive stance. They are engaged to investigate crimes after the fact, arrest suspects, build a case and turn over all that to a prosecutor.

They do not protect anyone. Especially since their presence deters no one. Unless they happen to be at the right place at the right time.

We, as individuals, are responsible for protecting ourselves and our families. It has always been this way. Never have the police been tasked with doing that.

I wonder if there will be any discussion of defensive measures such as decoys, booby traps, trip wires etc. If things really do get bad, that is very bad full blown SHTF, we need to think of IEDs as a defensive measure. Not that we would make any of these devices now but we may want to have the knowledge and supplies.
Any ideas?
