When the Democrat Party turned Left from “Ask not what your Country can do for you - -, “ to the Party of “We will will give you all of this free stuff from “The Country”, if you’ll keep on voting straight Democrat,” there was a tremendous desertion of Southern Democrats, Law and Order voters, Family Value Voters, and Reagan Democrats into the Republican Party. This effectively also turned the Republican Party to the Left.
While all of this was going on, the Democrats would periodically demand two giant steps to the Left, then find one or two Liberal Republicans to “compromise” with them, and then publicly declare, with great fanfare, that the highest good was achieved and the Nation was saved once again by all of us working together.
They were referring to the “Bi-Partisan Compromise,” and then begrudgingly agreed to consider someday, perhaps, taking one very small step to the Right as an acknowledgement that there really was a compromise.
One could call it the Lefty Democrat Two-Step.
BTW, the Republicans have yet to even recognize that that is what the Democrats do for a parasitic living off of us, the Federal taxpayers.
The result is that the Federal Republican Party in Congress is way to the left of where the Democrats were in the Eisenhower years.
Obama started his career in politics as a Bolshevik Communist, and was warmly welcomed by the leaders of the Democrat Party. This then underscores that the Federal Democrat Party in Congress is basically a blend of FDR Socialism, and a PC version of Lenin’s Communism.

Yes, there is such a thing as a RINO. It is basically blind to very short sighted, subject to poaching from “friends” across the aisle, dutifully follows the well worn path to defeat, and bravely tries to tolerate the Media tick birds that are forever trying to widen the holes in his/her hide.
Lately, those who throw TEA into the Briney, and those who are for legalizing all of the deadly sins have been doing their best Elephant grumble about starting a third party.
As long as “both” political parties can stop the election winning idea of 50 % + one vote, there will be no third party in Lefty Demokrat America.
