Obama Wants a War
American Thinker ^ | 12/04/2012 | Christopher Chantrill

Conservatives seem to be nonplussed about President Obama sending Treasury Secretary Geithner to Capitol Hill without a proposal for a grand bargain on entitlements.

But why? Worrying about debt and default and entitlements is for the responsible people.

Responsibility is for the people who believe in the "responsible self," the notion developed a couple of millennia ago during the Axial Age. Responsibility is for the bourgeoisie.

President Obama is above all that. Liberal politics in general is above all that. Their politics is about war, not about nice comfortable entitlements. President Obama's War? He's fighting a war on "inequality." Even the Washington Post's Zachary Goldfarb is willing to admit to that.

As Obama did in legislative fights during his first term, he also will be striving to reduce a three-decades-long wave of rising income inequality that has meant that fewer Americans have prospered while more struggle to get by.

There's a certain magnificent elegance to the president's war on inequality. It licenses him and his administration to do anything. More spending on the traditionally marginalized? Whatever it takes. Get the rich to pay a little more? It goes without saying.

In waging this war on inequality, it makes no sense to do a grand bargain on entitlements. What would that solve? It would freeze the status quo in place. But the war on inequality can never rest, can never end. A century from now, liberal scholars will be mining the national income data to find another "wave of rising income inequality" while "more struggle to get by."

How can the president rest in his lifelong struggle, his quest for the Great White Whale of equality, while the tide of inequality continues to rise?

From the article:

The only reason we conservatives are interested in a grand bargain on entitlements is out of the goodness of our hearts. Our naked self-interest would be to crash the entitlements, and the sooner the better, because we reckon that we, members of the responsible-self cult, will be able to rescue something for ourselves from the crash. After all, we are the makers; the 47 percent are the takers.

But we know that the 47 percent, the folks who depend on the government for their very existence, are the ones going to get hammered when the money runs out. And we feel compassion for them. So we propose to "do something" about it.

Actually I don't care a rat's ass about the so called 47% anymore. They deserve whatever they get. They asked for it. I'm anxious to let it crash so that those of us with some sense can get about the business of rebuilding.

The Roberts’ Court, in their decision on ObamaCare, has already shown us that an election will trump everything, even the US Constitution. SCOTUS decions will, from now on, ALWAYS side with the ^vox populi^.

Let it all go to hell-in-a-handbasket.
Lock and load.

Secede!

Responsibility is above Obama's pay grade!

0bama may need a real war as a cover to take away gun rights, censor the conservative media, and confiscate property (IRAs, tax hikes, elimination of mortgage deductions). This is the time tested way to for dictators to get the public to unite behind him and tolerate abuses at home- a threat from abroad. By the way, the ‘real war’ does not have to be long or very intense; it can be hyped by the media for full effect.

No bias here, huh?

Nah, JFK was a fool when he said a rising tide lifts all boats. It just aint't true. Go down to the port and watch as the tide comes in. Some of the boats will float higher and some will nearly be submerged. A small fraction will be swamped completely and sink. It is the big boats that will be raised the most and the small ships that will sink.

(/sarcasm)

Like all leftists,

0bama is looking for an excuse to use the deadly force of the state to exterminate his political opponents.

Obama is so ignorant he thinks he is king of America. Actually he is merely the CEO of the US government....not even a governor of one of the states. He is required to answer to the House, Senate, Court, and voters. He must not get too big for his britches because he does not understand how the US government is supposed to work as a republic.

Given Obama’s “goal” wouldn’t it be a good thing to simply go over the fiscal cliff - no compromise with him? He’s going to attempt to ‘roll’ the house Republicans for the next four years, why not stop him now?

Besides, if taxes go up on the middle class, Obama will have to come back with a deal to change that outcome.

On the other hand, do we have anyone in the House leadership that can negotiate worth a damn?
