Gingrich: The smart legislative strategy for Obama’s second term
Human Events ^ | 12/5/2012 | Newt Gingrich

>-snip-<

The news media and Washington elite solution is simple: surrender, cave in, give up your principles, do what the President demands. Those are the daily suggestions and expectations of the elite media and much if the national establishment, which takes its talking points from the consensus media of the left.

It would be a triple disaster for House Republicans to follow this defeatist advice.

First, it would be a betrayal of the very principles for which they campaigned and the voters who elected them.

Second, it would deeply and bitterly split the House Republican Conference between hard core conservatives and “Obama cooperators.”

Third, it would embolden President Obama and the left to increase their demands and push for even more concessions.

House Republicans are guaranteed majority status through 2014. The odds are overwhelming that they will increase rather than decrease their numbers in the 2014.

[The Republicans] find themselves baited, taunted, and attacked by a newly re-elected and re-energized President Obama . . . The House has five great tools for offsetting a President.

How about a sixth tool, more emphasis of the thousands of holes of golf, the habit of costly White House wingdings, a four-million-dollar Christmas vacation of several weeks.. more weeks than millions of Americans were able to find work -- more money spent on just this one vacation than 99 percent of Americans will earn in a lifetime . . . .

The Obamas..

fin-de-siècle (adj. characteristic of the last part of the 19th century, especially with reference to its artistic climate of effete sophistication; to wit, marked by self-indulgence, triviality, or decadence)

Just like when the Clintons were the president we learned the subtleties of jurisprudence and tons of legal words and expressions -- now we have a whole new class of words and expressions to learn.

The title of the piece provides a glaring clue as to why it will never happen.

Cutting to the chase: Is this any where near what Boehner is doing? Does anyone here actually know what Boehner is doing?

Does Boehner know what Boehner is doing?

I can't believe Newt isn't president at a time like this. When Romney won the nomination I said “Dole II”. Why do we do this to ourselves? McCain,.....Really? If Palin and Newt isn't good enough for the party, we need a new party.

Boehner is busy rolling over and locking the Tea Party in the basement. I think he’s dropped as a golf partner to become a caddy.

Amen. This is what my hubby and I are saying here at home.
There is no one else. We are about done.

The problems with Newt were legion....too many marriages, too many affairs, too much baggage, too much fodder, too much drama. Wasn’t Newt the one who sat on the couch with Nancy Pelousy extolling climate change caca? Didn’t Newt whine about not being invited on board Air Force One when Clinton was president? Wasn’t Newt forced out of the Speakership under an ethical cloud? Wasn’t Newt engaged in hos own extramarital affair at the same time he was pursuing the Lewinsky matter? Didn’t one of Newt’s businesses recently file for bankruptcy? Didn’t Newt and Callista take a vacation to the Greek isles in the middle of the presidential primary campaign and a shake up of their own campaign?

Not to say Newt doesn’t have some very fine qualities. He’s great author. He has a keen intellect. A great and witty debator, quick on his feet. A strong historical background. He would make a great professor, a great talk show host, a great author.

Newt after leaving the Congress abandoned Georgia and became a beltway creature much like Rick Santorum. Newt’s liabilities, his lack of discipline precluded him from being a serious presidential candidate. And one could also point to numerous flip flops and lack of ideological discipline as well, but that would take too long.

As usual Republicans looking to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, Conservatives deeming no one pure enough. We need Newt in some capacity, Republicans and Conservatives should be thanking him for what he has done, apologizing for squandering the bounty he left us and begging him to help do it again. He appears to be the only one with an idea and plan for what needs to be done. I would like to see him in the role of Speaker again but we all know the Republicans will have nothing to do with someone who knows what needs to be done and is willing to do it, he would probably offend Republican elites, democrats and media. We can’t have any of that, bring on the ass kissing compromisers.

You should face things. This isn't the 1990's any longer. This is not the time to destroy what people we have on the front lines combating those fraudulent democrats and their associates in the press. It is battle time. Collision of the 2 platforms or it will become worse. I know he has flaws..most I understand with reason. He is a reformer. Look at the videos on the net on this man. He is a valuable treasure. No man is without some kind of imperfections. His message is what we need. You forget the leftist were out for him for years about his college course and his book. Newt left because people on our side didn't protect him for their own political seats (Santorum was one). Now, look what direction the party is going..completely away from the gains we had accomplished under Newt's leadership. That means something to me. You talk like his campaign had the support of his party. They did everyhting possible to stop him and Palin. Please, don't expect me to see this as all Newt's fault. At the time of GW, many on our side were leaning with Nancy as many in the country because the science was confusing. The left has attacked him. I don't need to add to it, you go ahead. He was married legal and left them-it was his life and the first wife, all respect one another and the 2nd wife was under FBI investigation. I am happy that he left that woman to have a life. New wife gives him purpose. God gave him salvation. My favorite current leaders are Newt and Sarah. Others, need to step up.

Romney was my choice as opposed to obama, not my choice for the nomination but the only possible viable choice to beat obama after the Republican nomination process ended. I don’t speak for anyone but myself.

The way you ask the question am I to assume you were one of those with a more “viable” choice?

Lay off the facts, wise guy!

Of course you are accurate, but Newt would have been a great deal more fun than Dead Pan Dead Meat Mitt as candidate. Of course, he might also have lost, but it would have at least been interesting.

Me? I would hate to have to be the one to decide whether or not The Mormon Milquetoast was among the quick or the dead. At least Newt's multiple sins would have indicated he had a pulse.

Then, Newt did convert to Catholicism and meet the Pope, who probably gave him Absolution.

If Palin and Newt isn't good enough for the party, we need a new party.

I'm NOT exaggerating when I say, "that's a very profound statement."

America is adrift because Conservatives have NO voice.

A NEW party should be formed immediately.

I still beleive the party could be saved, but it looks bad unless we get Tea Party II. The reason there is even a Repub party at all is the Christians joined with defense hawks and fiscal conservatives to beat the socialist baby killer flag burners. The rubber meets the road when you lose your job.

If the Repubs lose one leg of the stool, they will return to Dole-McCain oblivion. The Tea Party is mostly fiscal conservatives with some flag waving going on. If they form a 3rd party, it's a real risk, but I think if we had the right person at the top, there would be a chance. The deal is,.....WE HAVE TO START NOW!!! A few months before the next election, people will see how viable the Tea Party would be and then we would see if they had a chance. If they poll 3%, forget it. Over 20%, maybe.

The Repubs are reverting back to basically Rockefeller Repubs which makes most get sick. Just watch the new leaders avoid abortion and sodomite marriage thinking they are "Big Tent". 1/3 of the party will go fishing. We will be permanent underwhelming.

The party is deciding right now what will happen. Dissing Palin and actively criticizing Newt is just a start. As I type, Kudlow is reporting on conservatives being purged from committees and 2 dozen Repubs abandoning ship and joining the Dems with Obama.

Its too early yet, but it will show, IMO, by summer or surely by fall. If the Tea Party is still hiding under the bed, we are finished. We will be stuck with whatever wimp the establishment can prop up in front of a camera.

I hope you enjoy president Romney cause you wanted a Mormon milk drinker instead of the smartest man in the room,....any room. I won’t address every misstatement you made, but one particularly irks me. Newt wasn’t forced out under an ethical cloud. Google is your friend. Half of the Republican party has been married twice or more. The rest of that crap falls under the “I wouldn’t drink a beer with him” category. I’m not looking for a bar buddy. Newt could fix this country on vacation from a bar in the Greek isles. He almost won this contest until the Romney machine crushed him after SC. It’s hard to fight a half billion dollars.

Some of the things posted were skewed. So, let's get the right-Those claim he's tainted because he was going after Clinton for lying under oath and since Newt was being in an affair, he was suppose to ignore the rule of law. So, Newt knows they're coming after him and still goes after Clinton because he knew that was the right thing to do. And Santos, tried to remove the speaker to avoid political damage. Some of this is nothing but a disservice and lies.
