Perhaps legal marihuana will keep a few people away from really dangerous drugs like meth or even alcohol?

They should put active THC into beverages or inhalers though, smoking is just sooo nasty! :-(

I would guess that it will be legal to smoke pot anywhere where smoking cigarettes is illegal.

“Perhaps legal marihuana will keep a few people away from really dangerous drugs like meth or even alcohol?”

I watched an interesting show on, I believe, the History Channel last week about marijuana. It had a decidedly pro-maryjane bent but, nonetheless, it had some interesting info.

Portugal, for instance, has incredibly lax laws regarding drug use. After not prosecuting for drugs for a number of years they stated that marijuana use among adults increased slightly, use among kids dropped off (because you need ID to get into the establishments selling it) and the use of hard drugs declined.

Not proof of anything and somewhat anectdotal since, like I mentioned, the show had a pro-pot lean to it but it makes a bit of sense, rationale-wise.

Kids can get weed easier than beer in the U.S. because they have to show ID for beer. Hard drug use declined in Portugal because you could easily get weed so you didn’t need to go through dealers who were also offering crack, meth, etc.

Again, not proof of anything. I am interested to see how things turn out in WA and CO.
