Californians buying guns at record rate
ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER ^ | 12/5/2012 | CLAUDIA KOERNER

Posted on 12/05/2012 2:04:15 PM PST by dragnet2

Californians are buying more guns than ever.

As of November, the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System had run 981,798 background checks related to guns in California, beating out totals for previous years before 2012 is even over. The numbers jumped about 8 percent from last year, part of a steady increase since 2008.

This year, however, the system broke records, with 154,873 calls on Nov. 23, up about 20 percent from Black Friday last year. With the high volume of calls, officials shut down call centers briefly to allow the system to catch up, Fischer said.

Among California gun buyers, the spike was even more pronounced.

Across all levels of government, officials have made moves to regulate gun ownership, he added. While the most restrictive regulations would likely be overturned by courts under the Second Amendment's right to bear arms, Eastman said a risk of control was enough to encourage prospective gun owners to buy while they can.

Outside of political strife, economic uncertainty has also inspired people to look for more protection, he said. Violent crimes have steadily declined in recent years, according to FBI statistics, but Eastman said concerns remain that those in desperate financial straits could be a threat to safety. With talk among politicians about cutting social benefits, financial hardships could become worse for many, creating an even more volatile situation, he said. Concerns are also high about preparedness in case of disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy.

"It's like a perfect storm," he said.

Charlie Blek, president of the Orange County chapter of advocacy group the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence "The National Rifle Association has done a wonderful of demonizing President Obama," he said.

“Thanks for the offer but I’ll stay away from California....”

Good. We have enough problems with liberals. We don’t
need other kinds of problems.

“..Why don’t we just put a forty foot high fence around the whole state and call it an insane asylum?...”

No, actually, why don’t we all work together to figure out a way to help those people who are just like us who are not able to get out of there, or other states like New Jersey, or New York?

Why don’t we put pressure on our local NRA chapters or other gun rights organizations and ourselves to send “lawyers, Guns, and money” as the old song says to support folks in states that are being slammed and stepped on - apply legal pressure and lawyers in states that are blatantly trampling on our brothers’ and sisters’ RIGHTS?

Like Zimmerman? Why aren’t ten thousand gunnies showing up to supoprt this guy - and ANYONE being persecuted for defending himself - every time the left tries to take one of OURS apart?

We need to stop thinking of folks as “those guys in that state” and start remembering that there are still Americans there who need help, and support, and allies.

Why don’t we band together, knock our heads together and come up with ideas and plans, means and ways to do whatever is necessary to HELP OUR PEOPLE who are being relentlessly f***ed over, everywhere, in every corner of this country?

Doesn’t that make more sense?

Because liberals pinpoint and target, and plot and scheme, and then drive, and they come soon to a theater near you - and ALL of us. No matter how “red” your own state or county may be.

Nobody ever though California would get like it is now. But it is.

There are Americans there. Our people. We should do whatever we can to help them. And they, us.

Frankly CA is a cesspool of stupid.

Your first post on this thread said it all. People doing this anywhere else are cool and good conservative Americans, but in CA, according to you, these people are stupid.

You babble too much and your comments are way transparent.

Lets see....when and where did I read in the news about CA gun owners taking the fight to the legislature? Oh, I didn’t. You all have had enumerable opportunities to fight and make head way. Why should you burden those from other states to come and help when you all won’t even help yourselves. Please do us all a big favor. Stay in CA don;t screw up the rest of the country anymore than you already have. No one wants you.

Private gun sales are illegal in CA.

My advice is screw CA. This State offer no real protection for you or me. The law is pure shi!. Between CA and NY I can't see which has the most criminally insane.

Organize and fight, like the other side does.

What was the old American Revolution saying, with the cut-up snake? “Join, or Die”

We’re there now.

See #45.

Some of these comments are pretty obvious...The article is about people in CA buy arms in record numbers, yet most of the comments are bad mouthing them.

Ya can't win with some of these people due to the fact they have their own agenda of bad mouthing CA, regardless of the article, the topic or whatever.

There are many fine Americans living in California. Some of them are FReepers. If I recall correctly, one of them is Jim Robinson.

Take care.

Great, I see the ‘fine Americans’ in CA have done a bang up job. Deeds speak louder than words.

Exactly right. Let us not forget that one of our most illustrious and beloved presidents, Ronald Reagan, was a Californian.

“...bad mouthing CA,...”

Well, I won’t.

They’re MY people too. OUR people. They have a basic human, civil, and Constitutional right to defend their lives, same as all of us, and it’s being f***ed over and eroded, same as it is for every single gunny in this country.

And whatever I can do to help, I should, and I will.

If this election taught us anything, it should be that we ALL have a target on our back. So if we’re all to be targets, we all must be soldiers.

One Team, One Fight friend.

“...Deeds speak louder than words....”

There’s only so much you can do when you’re outnumbered by lunatic moonbats that control things at the local, city, county, and state level.

Again - they move into an area like locusts and destroy what they touch. But there’s still good folks there that we should help, however we can.

Free Republic puts us all in touch. We should endeavor to take back what is currently lost, and not see all as a lost cause.

How? I don’t know...let’s start working it out, though.
