Police are investigating after a 2-year-old child was allegedly shot dead by another child.

Police said the shooting happened in Minneapolis’s Riverside neighborhood on the 1900 block of 7th Street South. They were called to the scene just before 1 p.m.

Authorities said the 2-year-old child was pronounced dead in the ambulance at the scene before he could be taken to the hospital.

According to Minneapolis Police Sgt. William Palmer, the toddler was shot by his 4 year old brother who was playing with a firearm.

Michelle Prestegard is a neighbor and witnessed the toddler receiving CPR.

“I saw the baby on the ground, on the grass next to the front steps and I saw paramedics performing CPR on the baby for quite a while,” said Prestegard. “They then stopped the CPR and then they picked him up. He had shorts and a T-shirt on. His body was just limp. His arms and his little legs fell back and they rushed him into the ambulance and the ambulance never left.”

This just breaks your heart. Two parents need to receive a very stiff penalty.

I do not understand how a four year old has an possible access to a gun. This is the type of abuse of fire arms that I hate.

They needed a little bit of the “gun culture” in their house. No one in the gun culture would advocate leaving a loaded gun where a 4 year old can get at it.

This is a typical news story about guns. There isn’t enough information to make a decision concerning what happened. The action of most handguns is too stiff for a small child to operate. It doesn’t say whether the handgun was an automatic or a revolver.

You’re right. There is very little information in the article.

Much is yet to be discovered, but one has to wonder WHY there was a loaded gun, accessable, in a home with four children ages 1-5.

Let’s see, this should be good for 437 more articles discussing the inherent danger of firearms, 432 of which will delete any mention of culpability on the part of the parental units who allowed the 4 yo to get his hands on the gun.

Can’t you just feel this movement growing...we need 3-4 more tragedy stories to come out, and then another anti-2A group to form with massive funding, with new messaging to come out, and they will work this and work this again and again.

Obviously, the 2 yo should have been aborted, right?

snip

Police say the 4-year-old was playing with a handgun he had found in a bedroom when the shooting occurred.

Sgt. William Palmer confirmed both of the boy’s parents were both home at the time of the shooting. Three of the couple’s children — 1-year-old, 4-year-old, and a 5-year-old that was not home at the time — are now in protective custody.

Homicide investigators have been assigned to the case and are interviewing the parents, but no arrests have been made. Once complete, the investigation will be referred to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for possible charges against the parents.

A toddler shot dead by a four-year-old is a tragedy because of the gun, but over 700,000 unborn babies in the past year killed by their mothers is a constitutional right because of a few demented justices on the Supreme Court.

To put it in more perspective, since 1968 or so, there have been over 800,000 murders in the United States. Over roughly the same number of years, there have been over 53,000,000 abortions in the United States. In other words, for each murder there have been over 66 abortions. Any time you hear anyone refer to males being disproportionately involved in murder and, thus, the more violent of the sexes, point out that women are involved in the taking of human lives, especially innocent human lives, at a rate that is at least 6600% greater than men.

The parents or whomever let the kids have access to the gun should be charged with murder of a child.

maybe....just maybe, the gun had to be handy because the parents were gang-bangers...in the drug business, whatever. Not all guns are in the hands of law abiding citizens for their personal protection!! Let’s wait and see...

Tragic...Truly heartbreaking.

And just watch them blame the "evil malicious gun."

I have children ages 1, 5, and 9... There is at least one loaded gun near you no matter where you are in my house.

My children learn early that some tools are very dangerous. If they want to see them, they ask first. I take the mystery out of it for them and always emphasize safety.

Of course, I’m not a thug life gangster, or a bed-wetting ninny that treats tools like a forbidden secret.

You cant’t childproof the world, but you can do a lot to world proof your children.
