Unions lost big in Michigan in November when voters rejected Proposal 2, Big Labor's plan to canonize collective bargaining in the state constitution. Now they are facing a backlash with the happy possibility that Michigan could become the 24th right-to-work state.

Ha ha ha...Detroit and Flint. Whoooda thunk it? LOL
“We are so not Detroit as a State”
Just about 15 or so years ago a local Detroit news anchor at Ch 7 Action News by the name of Guy Gordon was reporting on some kind of crisis in the city when he concluded his remarks by saying, “After all, we’re ALL Detroiters”, as though their entire viewership should share in this deep sense of community even though some of that viewership is more than 40 miles away from the nearest boundary of the city.
Ever since then, I watch the local news more as a critic than I do as an enquiring mind with a need to know.
I don't know where you're getting your information but neither Forbes or Wikipedia list any county in Michigan in the top ten. As a matter of fact, the closest is Livingston County ranked as #95, a far cry from top ten.
"Oakland County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. The 2010 Census recorded a population of 1,202,362. (...) It is among the ten highest income counties in the United States with populations over one million people..."
Maybe "over one million people" is the difference in our information. Fifteen years ago or so, Oakland County was said to be top three in the nation. I'm not sure if that was earnings, wealth, or what...heard that on the local radio station.
Regardless, I wonder where your perception of Michigan comes from? Saw Detroit on the news, I bet.
for those that aren’t knowledgable about Michigan...wnat to guess what the demographics are for Wayne county?

With much of America looking like this this is why it is important to maintain control of the house and it parliamentary rules and get the 17th amendment repealed so senators actually represent the states as originally designed. That way the president being elected by the unwashed masses is not that big a deal. Unlike now where we have a want to be dictator in power being facilitated by the senate elected by basically the same demographic.
This should be the focus.
Don’t forget the wonderful community of Plymouth! And we are in Wayne county too! Plymouth township voted for Romney with 56% of the vote. The proposals lost by close to 70-30 margins.
You might ask your neighbor how much money he could put into his own pocket each month if he were to stop paying the union dues (tax).
Sorry for the exclusion...the list of nice communities within an hour of Detroit is impressive. Also, Plymouth Michigan has Liberty Street Brewing Co.!!!
As a matter of fact, my perception of Detoilet has evolved from watching it go from a vibrant city, fun to visit, to down the crapper during the last 50+ years during which I have lived off and on in West Michigan (Grand Rapids metro).
He says he’s paid better than $30,000 in union tax over some 26 years.
Looks like a bill will be introduced today. I don’t especially trust these examiner articles so keep an eye out for more.
Washtenaw did something right for a change.
Better hold on to something because there’s about to be a Michigan earthquake.
Oakland County is in the top ten for populations over one million. Pontiac drags it down. Livingston County doesn’t have Bloomfield money, but doesn’t have any Pontiacs either.
“...and get the 17th amendment repealed so senators actually represent the states as originally designed.”
Yer dreamin’.
Never going to happen.
To me, being “conservative” is largely about reality.
To wit:
“Reality is what it is. It is not what we believe it to be.”
The amendments that created the Income Tax, direct election of Senators, the Federal Reserve, birthright citizenship — they are here to stay. No one is ever going to repeal them. Not in these United States, anyway.
(Aside: at some point the United States may dis-unite — what happens afterwards may be a different story. But not ‘til then)
MICHIGAN- Right To Work!
Update from Dave Agema
Voted YES on HB 4054. Freedom to work. It simply allows a new hiree to chose to join or not to join a union for condition of employment. It does not get rid of collective bargaining. This bill prevents people from NOT getting hired if they don’t like the union or what it stands for.
The dems are walking off the House floor in protest and refusing to vote. They then came back in and voted.
The bill passed.
