(Howard) Dean: "The Truth Is Everybody Needs To Pay More Taxes, Not Just The Rich"

HOWARD DEAN: The only problem is -- and this is initially going to seem like heresy from a progressive is -- the truth is everybody needs to pay more taxes, not just the rich. And it's a good start. But we're not going to get out of this deficit problem unless we raise taxes across the board, to go back to what Bill Clinton had and his taxes. And if we don't do that, the problem is the pressure is going to be on spending even more.

People DO pay more taxes already...In NYS, gas is taxed on the dollar. So part of the paying “twice as much” for gas since Obama took office is the “double take” by my state.

Correction to post 18—that should read:

Even if we cut spending, we’re all going to have to pay more taxes later in this decade just to cover the interest expense on our massive federal debt accumulated through spending that has already occurred and can’t be revoked.

What!? Give us more tax money or we'll be forced to spend even more? Is that what he's saying?

Exactly which is the reason why they should have let the taxes expire two years ago in 2010. However, The Republicans are truly the Stupid Party and consistently get out maneuvered by people with IQ’s below the level of room temperature.

No, Howard, the truth is the government needs to stop spending.

Except America didn't vote for spending cuts. America voted for European-style social welfare. This doesn't come cheap and the "rich" alone won' be able to pay for it, even if they were taxed to the last penny. Not even close.

Pay it America! You asked for it!

The well-to-do are paying enough. But in the spirit of fairness everyone with any income should pay taxes. Those who receive unemployment compensation or any of the government programs which provide cash to the low income. should pay some taxes - at least 5%. If that free money was taxed plus reduce expenditures, things would look different.

When it came time to pay his own property taxes in Marxist redoubt Burlington, Vermont, the Screamer came up short, claiming his check got lost in the mail. Then, of course, he had to holler “Do you know who I am?” when city hall added penalty and interest to the amount due. He refused to pay the penalty and interest. How is that for a Jackass double standard? “It’s good for thee but not for me.”

We can only wish to get to be a European social welfare state. The United States is way beyond Europe in this idiocy. You see in Europe the freebies are not so free. The layabout class is actually expected to pay taxes for their free stuff. In the the good old USA the free stuff is free. The layabout class pays nothing, just takes with both hands. The producers in Europe and the US pay about the same in taxes today, and are government is about to take more. The truth is America voted for a European-style welfare state expecting someone else to pay for it.

“Second time this week I agree with Dean.... if Americans want “free stuff” then America should pay for it.... not just the rich.”

Howard Dean is a well disliked man. He is an open communist. However, I never known of him to have an intergrity problem. Even with his personal commusist beliefs, he was not to afraid to admit them, or pretend they where something other than communist. That is the same about this “fiscal cliff” thing. He is honest about his personal solution to it. He will rachet up all taxes across the board. He isn’t pretending that the taxes will affect someone else and not yearself. I don’t think he is right. However, what he is saying is probably what 100% of all the Democrats really think.

he agrees that it’s a poison pill that’s going to collapse the current health care system. Which to him is a good thing because it’ll lead to the adoption of single-payer.

I recall Obama stating this very tactic about six or seven years ago in some union brothel. That obamacare is a transitional patchwork on the way to single payer tyranny is a self evident truth.

The Unemployment Compensation my Wife receives is counted as Taxable Income. It ends on December 31st, so at least we won’t have to pay the higher 2013 Obama Tax Rates on it.

My Wife ended up being a 26 Weeker, not a 99 Weeker. Just found out that the Federal Extension is over in CA for 400,000 people, my Wife being one of them. Haven’t heard much about that in the news, wonder why? I’m sure the story will break so the Republicans will be blamed for not spending more money, that we don’t have, like Obama wants.

Welfare, EBT Food Stamps, Subsidized Section 8 Housing Grants and Medical Coverage are not Taxable.
Perhaps they should be, but it will never happen.

The hidden factor in all the discussions about money needs skirts or intentionally ignores that the Nation has been burdened with so many/too many people who have become beneficiaries of the must do the feely- goody thing even if all these persons came here just for that. The whole base of recipients need to be exposed and why the base is what it is. There is only so much resources/earnings/money that can be available for all the welfare programs. If they haven’t earned it they don’t get it.

He’s almost right - the bottom 40% needs to pay some taxes to have real skin in the game and to maybe get a better understanding of why the “liberal” principles are the problem vs. the cure.

But we're not going to get out of this deficit problem unless we raise taxes across the board"

ARGH! This meme is beyond ANY conclusion a rational person would come to.

It's like a morbidly obese person saying "I'm fat, so I need more food!"

No, Howard, the truth is the government needs to stop spending.

While I agree with you, how will our elected officials then be able to line their AND their friends filthy pockets with our money?

Call me cynical but I'd be happy to retract that statement if someone could name just ONE elected official that hasn't enriched himself beyond his fat paycheck.

Reminds me of Lot arguing with God over how many righteous lived in Sodom!
