The damaging video of Israel soldiers fleeing from rock-throwing terrorists may have a happy ending as the IDF reviews limitations on soldiers, several of whom also charged that officers' fear of media photos forced them to retreat.
The video of the soldiers in retreat last Friday may have been embarrassed senior IDF officers enough to change increasingly restrictive limits on soldiers’ ability to fight terror.
Combat troops have privately complained the past several years that they have been exposed to life-endangering situations by restrictions on their shooting at terrorists.
Court cases, lawsuits, and negative media have been behind the restrictions that place soldiers in a situation of having to prove their lives were threatened if they shot and wounded or killed a suspected terrorist, especially if he turns out to have been a regular civilian acting in a suspicious manner.
Biased media have proved to be an enemy that has aggravated their situation, with foreign mainstream media often showing soldiers shooting at Arab rioters, who are presented as innocent “demonstrators” in a David vs. Goliath scene of Arabs being armed “only” with rocks and Israeli soldiers with rifles.

I don’t think it’s a change in policy. It probably has been coming for some time, and not just under Barak.
Simple solution, shoot to kill.
Short of that, form up in a phalanx with shields raised, use nightsticks, tear gas, drones spraying “skunk” and stun guns, and advance. Any damned thing is better than running.

Simple solution. Cameras = targets.
(Under suspicion a gun is secreted in said camera. It would be easy to dummy up a few cameras with guns inside, plant those in the riot area, “find”and present them as proof.)

Full auto paint ball guns with pepper spray balls will back up any crowd. Just crank up the pressure and fire for effect.
IDF has a substance called “skunk” that they developed for crowd control. Just spray it over the crowd, and they smell like puke for hours. Takes the fight out of anyone without any injuries or deaths.
