The American Geophysical Union (AGU) is an important scientific society. It includes many earth science disciplines and publishes numerous journals. Unfortunately the organization has been co-opted by global warming extremists. The great majority of the scientists who study the Earth's climate don't have an extremist position on climate change. However, true believers of the "imminent catastrophe" school tend to be activists. These are the people who stay to the end of every meeting, get appointed to committees, and generally punch above their weight in organization politics. The true believers don't waver in the face of contradictory facts or data. For the true believers, ideology trumps facts. They are agile thinkers and can always figure a method of explaining away any negative information that might disconfirm the impending climate catastrophe. The firmness with which they hold to their beliefs is similar to the unwavering confidence expressed by the flying saucer cult described in the book When Prophecy Fails. After a fleet of saucers failed to land when predicted, the cultists' belief in flying saucers and their belief that they were communicating with spacemen was unshaken. They had plenty of plausible reasons why the saucers didn't arrive. The climate catastrophe shows no signs of arriving either, except in the imagination of the activists and in the slogans of their publicists.
The "imminent catastrophe" school of global warming is in a lot of trouble. If you go back to the year 2000, things didn't look nearly as bad as they do now. The atmosphere had been warming for 30 years, as had the oceans. At least that's what the well-massaged official data said. Then everything started to fall apart. Global warming seemed to stop after 1998 and hasn't reappeared up to now. More seriously, the oceans, in the upper 700 meters stopped warming...

If you want an idea of how the re-write is going to look, just consider the timing. The existing statement was written over five years ago. Why change it now?
Hint: The election was only a month ago.

True science REQUIRES critical evaluation...i.e., skepticism .
The goal of the “climate change” agenda is global government.
Don’t let anyone call you a kook or paranoid for stating this fact, and don’t get bogged down in the details arguing about the veracity of the “science”.
Not one assertion by the AGW/IPCC CO2 crowd has been proven correct. NOT ONE. When they have to HIDE THE DATA from outside scrutiny. DOCTOR THE DATA when it doesn’t fit their POLITICAL AGENDA you have nothing but a ANOTHER POLITICAL SCIENCE SCAM TO rip off the american people. This is not the first time these frauds tried to PULL THE WOOL over us. OZONE HOLE, ACID RAIN were two other SCAMS OPERATIONS by these LUNATICS.
Maybe we are heading into an ice age, maybe run away heat.
The salient point is that even the most radical anti-carbon “soloutions”, by the author’s own admission, do not “solve” the problem.
So if beggering the country doesn’t accomplish anything why do it?
Not so much ideology -- even that can turn on a dime (as with Lenin's promulgation of the New Economic Program) -- as practical political operational need, the end in sight being the overthrow of society and its investment by the Politburo.
Therefore their program shouldn't be thought of as "ideological" so much as operational. It's their line, their patter, their con.
Leftists are always on the prowl for a respectable professional group to rolls and use. The homosexuals went 3-for-3 rolling the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychology Association, and the American Psychotherapy Association in 1972-3. Now all three dance to the GLBT lobby's tune.
The American Association of Petroleum Geologists has not been rolled by the Green/Reds, and neither have a number of other earth-science societies.
I'm a geologist, and I know enough to know that we have had several warming/cooling cycles long before humans had any claim to a significant impact on atmospheric emissions. Where I am sitting typing this was under a kilometer of ice sheet just 10,000 or so years ago. Maybe it was the SUVs that melted off the ice...
If you are sure of your data nad your conclusions, you have nothing to hide--quite the opposite, you would want to show off how brilliant your research was. They're hiding the info, and that means they don't have a case for their conclusions.
Once someone admits that they believe in AGW I doubt every single thing they ever say afterwards.
If it’s a decent person, I figure they are just ignorant or easily duped.
If it’s a politician you KNOW for certain that they are up to no good!
