You Think the GOP Has Problems?
American Thinker ^ | December 11, 2012 | Christopher Chantrill

While everyone gathers around the water cooler Monday-morning quarterbacking Speaker Boehner on the execution of his game plan for the Cliff Bowl before it is even played, let us spare a thought for the hapless Democrats. After all, who would want to be a Democrat as we go into 2013?

Don't be fooled by that tough-guy act.

Yes, yes, we know that the Democrats own the future with the educated, the young, the black, and the Hispanic. And Republicans have just got to learn to speak Hispanic. Even Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan seem to agree.

But my suspicion is that the old song had it right. The new Democratic majority has gone about as far as it can go. You can tell that in the subtext of Democratic policy this holiday season, which seems to be: entitlements today, entitlements tomorrow, entitlements forever.

There is something vaguely familiar about that catchphrase.

Here is how I explain it.

Back in 1989, the Democrats panicked. They had just lost three presidential elections in a row, first to an amiable dunce and finally to a New England blue-blood. How bad can it get?

The new strategy, we can now see, was fiendishly clever. Democrats would feint towards the middle, as in New Democrats, while playing race politics with blacks and Hispanics.

Lowering ourselves to employ Democratic tactics isn’t the correct strategy. I personally would not be able to discuss conservative issues with a straight face.

While the American Stalinists, the American National Socialists and the American Jihad is marching the herds into the gas chambers, these fleabags are going to sit around explaining how much smarter they are and how the enemy is really losing.

It’s a good article, identifying the problems with current Demoncrap strategy. However, the prevailing winds of demographics, and a GOP solution, are not written about.

Today, President Obama is proposing that all we need to do going forward is to increase taxes on the rich by about $80 billion per year. In the face of a $1,200-billion deficit per year.

The author is wrong. Obama not only wants to raise the taxes on the "rich" to Clinton-era rates, he also wants to close loopholes, etc. per the Boehner offer. And Obamacare will impose even more taxes on the so-called rich, so it is a double whammy.

Obama has also proposed new spending of $250 billion. In the face of a collapsing welfare state, the Dems will tax more and more to keep it afloat. Next up will be the VAT, the last part of their strategy. And they will sell it by saying that impacts the wealthy more than the middle class.

There is no Dem plan, just a coalition built around passing legislative initiatives. This article is right - they stand for nothing but handouts. Handouts to everyone, mind you: your parents, you if you are unemployed, your healthcare, your infrastructure, etc.

Are we ready to cut our umbilical cords to Big Mamma?

No, "jobs" is not what is needed. What we need is people taking initiative and working. "Jobs" can be done by robots, and increasingly they are.

I've come across some things recently that point a path to the future:

  1. A new attitude about work: The economy, least of all big business, is not going to fix itself, so individuals will have to take the initiative. I found the following quote inspiring: "... if the only pay that's risen in the last 40 years is CEO pay, then the only sane career choice is CEO." (Giles Bowkett). Start your own company, even if it's a company of one.

  2. A new attitude about learning: The education system, least of all public schools, is not going to fix itself, so individuals have to take the initiative. Seth Godin has some ideas in Stop Stealing Dreams: What is School For?. Then, yesterday, I stumbled on Mark Edward Vande Pol's Knowledge Economy: A Workable Plan to Transform Education. Vande Pol shows that a good education can be had by bootstrapping. Help a kid to a strong basis in -- yes -- reading, writing, and math, and after third grade he can teach himself, gaining more, and more useful, knowledge than a college degree before other kids are out of high school. Including the right knowledge to start a small business.

This will build productive work right here in the U.S.

The dem coalition is held together by antipathy toward white Christian/traditional America and a government check. That’s it.

I think the article misses one thing. It misses the fact that the American voter is no longer capable of any form of rational thought. The Democrats have always had their media cheerleaders but enough Americans remained skeptical enough of government to actually think and reason — as far as their limited thought processes would take them.

Since the Democrats succeeded in taking over the nation’s edumacation system, that rational thought process has been eliminated from the vast majority of the electorate.

Now, faced with the worst economy since the Great Depression the media says things are not only fine, they are getting better everyday. Most voters don’t even question it. They simply nod in agreement and vote for whomever they are told by the media.

Conservatives missed the opportunity to mold the minds of the young. Schools are now a marxist paradise full of the most impressionable among us being taught by the most destructive among us. The nations youth — being shaped into the perfect marxist electorate — has been transformed and now we have generations of useful idiots.

Which makes me wonder if “conservatives” don’t need to find some alternative to the GOP, or if perhaps, the GOP needs to re-brand itself.

“I think the article misses one thing. It misses the fact that the American voter is no longer capable of any form of rational thought.”

Possibly true, but last cycle the two parties conspired to insure there was no meaningful choice either. Hard to tell if the electorate is insane when the leadership cadre in both the entrenched parties are so obviously deranged and choices are limited to competing absurdities.

Yes, yes, we know that the Democrats own the future with the educated...

Had to stop right there. That claim is simply laughable. If the author is saying that the rats own the hand-wringing college professors, then okay.. But if the author honestly believes that the Democrat party base of atheists, abortion enthusiasts, union pinky rings, condom-throwers, Boy Scout haters, Georgetown sluts, Hollywood drunks, America-hating malcontents, minority "victim" classes, and your garden variety hordes of moochers, deadbeats, parasites, and goofballs is an "educated" bunch, then the author needs to get off the PCP.

The Dems are on track for a major implosion as soon as the Blacks and Hispanics both realize that they cannot BOTH be the A#1 Most Favored Minority.

Many people vote for the Democrats out of fear. We have to start belittling cowards. I had three people yesterday write me that cowardice is OK. People who use illegal drugs to escape reality are cowards, and cowards vote Democrat. You want to reduce the number of people voting Democrat? Belittle the cowardice of illegal drug use.
Get the government of the United States out of the way of business for ten years. Let our natural competitive advantages be put to use. The third biggest economy in the world is an island with no natural resources. China is burdened with a huge population of peasants and little natural competitive advantage. Our problem isn’t our national competitors, it’s our own government and the old lady mentality that controls it. That’s why you have the Germans cheering for Obama. The Germans are competitive. They know the Democrats will hurt our competitiveness which will help them. They don’t like Obama. They like the wreck he makes of our competitiveness.
