STUDY: Reality Show Viewers Are More Neurotic, Have Lower Self-Esteem...

People who watch non-competition reality shows are more extroverted, neurotic and have a lower self-esteem, according to a new study.

The survey, conducted by Today.com polled 19,000 people and found that "those who watched non-competition reality shows are more extroverted, neurotic and have lower self-esteem than watchers who are not fans of the genre."

Additionally, the survey found that 72% of women and 60% of men watch Reality television simply because they're bored. Also, 46% of women and 26% of men watch this genre because they like to see how people with money and fame live their lives.

Deadliest Catch and Real Housewives were the top reality shows among men, according to the study.

While it appears most individuals watch Reality TV out of boredom, a study released last year found that some girls might be negatively impacted by these programs.

According to a report from the Girl Scouts Research Institute, "Real to Me: Girls and Reality TV," shows like "Teen Mom" and "Jersey Shore" have mixed effects on young girls.

The study polled 1,100 "tween" and teenage girls and found that reality shows can be uplifting and motivational, but they can also negatively impact girls' relationships and self-esteem.

Girls who regularly watch reality TV accept and expect a higher level of drama, aggression and bullying in their own lives.

The report also found that these girls measure their worth primarily by physical appearance.

If you have to revel on others and how they live .. uhh. boring.

Unless you’re anchored to a bed, get out there and make your own reality.

The majority of reality tv is about shallow plots, shallower actors and making money primping for talk shows and news rags.

I think it depends on the reality show. As with, anything, some are better than others. Survivor is a much better show than Honey Boo Boo.

If I want drama in my home, I just feed my cat something he doesn’t desire—let the games begin!

They are all stupid. Even the competition cooking shows my wife seems to love, even though she cannot cook. All that fancy crap they fix I wouldn’t eat on a dare. Steak and taters!

There is a lot that is intuitive in this article. A mojority of females like this dreck. Females enjoy emotional interpersonal dramatics.

Ever notice that innercity women are often involed in emotional cat fights? The sheer banality of their lives drives them to either watch, or more likely, create this emotional drama.

I have also noticed that girls/women/teens seem to love following celebrities. I do not think males, by and large, really get into the celebrity nonsense.

I think we live in a wealthy society that has become bored and banal. They have not been told about God and immutable truths and thus are left with aimlessly trying to find meaning and trying to distract themselves from their own internal gnawings.

I’ve personally enjoyed the apprentice, and celebrity apprentice.

Trump was actually semi-educational in these shows.

There are a couple that shine. That is not one of them, imho. :-}

The alaskan ones are half decent, keeping warm and fed is a higher priority. mining for gold in the bering sea, that made me shiver. btw, what is up with all the gold mining shows?
