What needs to be accomplished could only happen with things like term limits, repeal of the 17th Amendment, repeal of Gov. lifetime pensions...I'm sure you could add to the list.

We’re still waiting for the spending cuts we were supposed to get 16 months ago in exchange for raising the debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion. I would not even consider raising it again until the Dems honor what they agreed to in Aug 2011. First, cut $150 billion in spending immediately for this fiscal year, then we’ll talk.
There’s lots of things they could cut, not even factoring in worthless federal alphabet agencies and `the disadvantaged.’
But Congress and the pResident are like spoiled sorority girls with Dad’s credit card: They won’t give it up without a fight.
They shouldn’t be the only ones targeted. But they can’t get them extended without the Dems, and there’s no way they’re going to get that. That’s what Romney got us.
So better to get those cuts they can than none at all. That’s pretty simple and straightforward.
What the GOP leadership is doing is offering to contribute to the raising of taxes because they don’t have power to cut them. That makes no sense.

There is a downside for Obama going over the cliff. Welfare and unemployment benefits both take hits. Unemployment goes back to 26 weeks.
