Skip to comments.Nadler urges Obama to call the NRA enablers of mass murder

Today, following the shooting massacre of 20 children in a Connecticut school, President Obama said that "meaningful action" needed to be taken to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.
But what "meaningful action" can Obama actually take, given Republican control of the House and Congress' deeply felt fear of the politically mighty National Rifle Association? And politics aside, what new laws would actually solve or make a dent in the country's crazed-gunman problem?
Rep. Jerry Nadler said thinks that the president has only one option.
"Theres only one meaningful action he can take, which is to take on the N.R.A., label them as the enablers of mass murderers* they are, really push for strong gun-control legislation and call out those congressional leaders who dont support it," Nadler told me this afternoon.
"It is time to call out the N.R.A. as enablers of mass murder and start embarrassing people and saying, 'Who do you stand with? The parents and children of this country or the potential mass murderers?'"
Nadler said there's nothing else Obama can do, realistically.
"There is no other meaningful action," Nadler said. "He has to know that. ... I cant imagine what else he could have meant."
Nadler attributes the N.R.A.'s power to its ability to terrify politicians.
"If you cross the N.R.A. in certain districts, you know that X percent of people are going to come out and vote against you just because of that," said Nadler. "The N.R.A. will come out and run dishonest ads saying you're in favor of taking guns away from hunters."
By Nadler's logic, the only way to counteract the N.R.A. electoral influence is to wield the power of really bad P.R., and he thinks the president is well-equipped to do that, even if he's been unwilling in the past.
I will now go directly to the NRA and make a donation! ha.
Guns sales will go thru the roof now..time for me to buy guns stocks!
Several armed and trained teachers could have stopped this clown. But NO... we must keep schools “gun-free zones.” The Libs are the true mass murderers of children.
He WAS a disgusting lump of fat until his gastric bypass, no doubt at taxpayer's expense. Now, he's still a disgusting lump of fat, but a slightly smaller one.
Obesity causes 100,000400,000 deaths in the United States per year. Crazy people are responsible for only a tiny fraction of that.
We need food control, not gun control.
And the millions killed by abortion and the carnage in the inner city does not count according to him. The Democrats twist reality to fit their version of the facts. They have no respect for life. This is all about control.
Note to Fat Jerry the Retard. The N.R.A. is not Adam Lanza’s mother or father. If you need “enablers”, they would be your “enablers” fat boy.
The leftist, hypocrite POS from New York?
"In the waning days of the Bush Administration, Rep. Nadler continued to be a prominent voice against White House abuse of power, investigating those with a hand in illegally spying, torturing or depriving individuals of due process. A passionate believer in accountability for executive abuses, Nadler has held numerous high-profile hearings and introduced several key bills designed to restore balance and the rule of law, including the State Secret Protection Act, the American Anti-Torture Act, the Midnight Rule Act, and a resolution against pre-emptive pardons by President Bush."
Hey Nadler...How about a kick in the nards for starters you fing dimwit!!
He hasn’t seen his nards in years.
The Libs are already drooling over this, They will propose insane gun-grabbing. When the Repub House disagrees, the Repubs will be branded mass murderers in the 2014 election, with pictures of this shooting run 24/7. They will get and show photos of the dead kids lying on the floor. Might work unless Boner and Co. get off their asses.
When will people wake up and realize the mental health industry is allowing these mentally ill people to walk among us and kill our kids.
It's dishonest to come out and say that the second amendment is all about "hunting".
You cant arm 5 year olds...so the argument that more guns will make society safer will be seen as idiotic by the majority of Americans...
If we cant afford the government now we certainly cant afford putting armed guards in every elementary school in the country..
In the USA, after today, the idea that universal access to firearms is acceptable is dead.
Folks who support the 2nd Amendment need to come up with solid proposals to keep guns out of the hands of the crazies. If we don't do that, the rest of the country is going to figure out ways to keep guns out of every ones hands...
Does the NRA use the argument that the Democrat Nazis will take away guns from Hunters?
Are “Hunters” a protected class nowadays?
I’m not a Hunter, but I own a whole bunch of stuff that a Hunter would own. I guess I’m not part of the Club Nadler is referring to.
Good thing for Nadler that we don’t hunt Hippos in this Country. He might be mistaken for one by one of those NRA loving Hunters in Upstate New York.
We all need to urge Obama to call Ben and Jerry’s enablers of Nadler being a lardass.
Don't bank on that saving us. The Republicans never have the guts to speak out and bring up their own issues, always playing defense.
If they ever wanted to actually engage instead of huddle in fear they should come out against the Dems for all the cash they've thrown at education without so much as a nod to school security. They pay for mountains of useless paperwork when the kid's safety should be their #1 priority. It's never an issue until a tragedy like this but this wasn't the first school shooting. And guns aren't the only threat.
Ironic that we have the 2nd amendment as a check and balance to politicians like Nadler.
There’s a reason he’s called the Waddler. Were I to have less charitable feelings for our porcine friends I would call him a swine, but that would insult pigs.
Point 1: There is no such thing as putting "politics aside" with this group.
Point 2: There are two factors that make up the "crazed-gunman problem", the crazed person and the gun. Why is it so difficult to institutionalize the dangerously insane?
Sorry for the rant but I'm totally p**ed at the MSM for politicizing it. I'm thinking and praying for those families. What they are going through tonight.
