Murdoch calls for automatic weapons ban

News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch expressed support for an automatic weapons ban tonight following today's shooting in Newtown, Conn.

"Terrible news today. When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons?," Murdoch wrote on Twitter.

Murdoch made a similar call following the theater shooting in Aurora, Colo., in July: "We have to do something about gun controls. Police license okay for hunting rifle or pistol for anyone without crim or pscho record. No more," he tweeted.

News Corp. owns Fox News, where contributors have been objecting to calls for gun control throughout the day.

The shooter used two 9mm pistols and this clown calls for an automatic weapons ban which has already been in place since 1934. GENIUS.

Lunatic control would start with the idiots who call for stricter gun control laws after someone goes on a shooting spree in a “gun free” zone.

I don’t really understand how Twitter works, but Glenn Reynolds says that Murdoch, or whoever runs his Twitter account, is busily deleting responses that correct him.

Ban alcohol. Ban freedom. Ban free speech. Ban anything you can think of

There was a report that the shooter was 20 then 24.

As a precaution lets just either jail or kill all 20 year olds, and, to be on the safe side take out the 24yos also.

I realize this has to be reported etc, but if we (media) would stop making ‘folk heroes’ out of these bums, quit referring to someone -with a gun in his hand who just admitted to ‘cappin’ the MFer’- as the alleged shooter, Mr etc etc. and treat them like the criminals they are, this crap may slow down.

Take a picture and commend someone for eating a pile of ‘horse apples’ and before you know it, ALL the dummies are munching on horse apples, hoping to get their mugs on TV.

Either the elites are really stupid people, or they have a firm grasp of how monumentally stupid the sheeple really are.

Whatever the case, they desperately want today’s atrocity to be America’s Port Arthur moment. I’d be shocked if it didn’t turn into just that.

Wonder what Rupert thinks of the Chinese children who had their throats slit by a..a...KNIFE!!!

(I’ve always loved the tagline a Freeper has that states: “My gun has killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy’s car”.)

First, and most Importantly, there is no associated guilt on the part of gun owners anywhere. Gun owners had no part in this evil whatsoever. Thus, there is no reason to punish them for the actions of one individual. The idea that something must be done is nonsense. The perp is dead. What more can be done? Persecuting innocent people to “Do something” is vile.

I’ve done some more digging. So far, two have done so in 78 years; since 1934.

High capacity mags and semi-auto arms do make it more convenient for killers. That is all they do tho. If they could not get them they would simply be inconvenienced, nothing more. They could find any number of other ways to kill the innocent. They probably could even find the illegal guns since they would not care at all about that.

A British Constable who was also a fellow at Cambridge said there would always be enough guns to supply the criminal element.

To a citizen attacked by multiple people it could easily make the difference between surviving or not.

I actually was once attacked by a large group. Having a Browning Hi-Power with two mags certainly made me feel better than being unarmed.

As it turned out, as soon as these particular thugs saw I was armed, they left. It was a random attack by people I had never met or had any connection with.

We don’t need gun control, we need LUNATIC control!

Indeed. The political powers that be have knowingly foisted violent mental cases upon the general public for decades with the b*llsh*t claim that it would save money. It would be better to replace most of the political class with those that doesn't hate the American people so much.

"Terrible news today. When will politicians find courage to ban automatic weapons?,"

1. Someone at the school buzzed in a maniac, armed with two handguns, and carrying a rifle. While a handgun can be concealed, a rifle... not so easy.

2. There was, apparently, no one at the school able to stop the perpetrator (no one armed).

And since, Mr. Murdoch, you seem to lack the ablility to draw even simple conclusions, allow me to spoon-feed you:

Adam Lanza could have achieved the same result with a pump-action shotgun, or a few sticks of dynamite (E.G. Bath School disaster). He just happened to use semi-automatic firearms, instead.

3. You, Mr. Murdoch, and Fox News (along with the other 24/7 media) are partly to blame.

Your media empire, and the other 24/7, hand-wringing, hyperventilating,  if-it-bleeds-it-leads media outlets, continuously make people like Adam Lanza, Jared Lee Loughner, and Seung-Hui Cho famous (or infamous).

No longer content simply to put a gun in their mouths, people like Lanza now choose to go out in a way that will make them famous/infamous, forever.  Thanks to the ad infinitum and ad nauseum coverage provided by 24/7 cable news, they can become even more famous than people like Charles Starkweather, Richard Hickock and Perry Smith, or John Dillinger. And they know it.

4. I don't need some hypocritical, leftist Australian billionaire, likely with armed body guards, and living on a gated compound, with high-tech security, telling me what guns I can, or cannot, own.

“Anybody know what kind of weapons were used?”

The guns belonged to the mom. Two hand guns, one a Glock, don’t remember the other. And, a semi-automatic rifle that looked like a “bad” gun, didn’t look like a wood stock regular rifle, but that’s what it was.

Mass killings have happened in states with severe gun laws. Mass killings have NOT happened with reasonable gun laws that allow concealed carry.
