School slaughter triggers push for gun control

In the wake of the horrific Connecticut kindergarten massacre today, gun-control advocates are taking to Twitter and the media to blame firearms for the murders of 28 people, including 20 children.

“Too soon to speak out about a gun-crazy nation? No, too late,” tweeted “Bowling for Columbine” Director Michael Moore. “At least THIRTY-ONE school shootings since Columbine.”

He also wrote, “The way to honor these dead children is to demand strict gun control, free mental health care, and an end to violence as public policy.”

CBS News reported that the shooter was found with two handguns: a Glock and a Sig Sauer nine millimeter. Police reportedly located a .223 caliber rifle in his car.

Why gun-free zones are the most dangerous places in America.

CNN’s Piers Morgan tweeted: “Another day, another horrific shooting. America’s gun culture has to change. When will America deal with its gun madness?”

Morgan added, “Any moment now, a gun nut will tweet me saying, ‘If all the kids in that school had been armed, the shooters would have been stopped…”

One person reminded Morgan that White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, while there is a day to talk about gun-control policy, “today is not that day.”

But Morgan countered, “White House spokesman Jay Carney’s right – today’s not the day to debate gun control. YESTERDAY was the day to debate it.” He also said the tragedy led to what is “now President Obama’s biggest test – will he have the courage to stand up to the American gun lobby?”

Is there any difference between the child a mother aborted and her child that died in the kindergarten?

These kinds of people used to be locked up long before they shot someone long ago when they showed mental issues like autism and schizophrenia.
It’s not the guns, it’s letting the mental out in public instead of locking them up for life in many cases.
Our civility is what facilitated this, not guns and unless we are going to be willing to lock up all the mental folks as kids you are going to always have this happening.

I think in pretty much all cases the signs of what to come was exhibited by shooters, bombers, knife stabbers and such in the past.

Answer to be honest is to restrict the mental, not the knife, gun or whatever.

Who is willing to lock them up before they act though?
That is the real issue.

All this noise, yet, not one person has called for a ban on knives. In China another whacko just hacked up 22 kids at a school and not a peep from the “Stop Senseless Knife Violence” lobby. How many people are killed every day, murdered, by loony toon Islamists weilding machetes? Where’s the outrage there? I read somewhere that there are over 100 (IIRC) “wrongful deaths” by vechicle every day in the US; Who’s trying to get all the cars off the roads? While we’re at it I think all tsunami waves should be banned, and all lightning strikes, and all airplanes that fly more that two feet off the ground and faster than 4.7 MPH. And don’t get me started on the subject of oxygen; I have it on good authority that every person who ever breathed air containing oxygen will die some day. EVERY SINGLE ONE! Between them, George ridgeway, Javed Iqbal, Perdo Lopez, and Luis Garavito killed between 300 and 700 people with their bare hands or clubs. How about John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy, all their victims died without the use of a firearm.

Every tool ever developed by humankind can be a weapon in the wrong hands. The gun control folk keep playing that same old one-note samba and can never admit to the fact that “People Kill People”. To stop it you’re going to have to amputate the arms and legs, and pull all the teeth, of every person on the planet. When you get to the last person, the one who did all the amputations, who’s gonna take him down to size? You’ll just have to wait for him to die, I suppose. By then there might be offspring of some of the more ambitious amputees and they would be born with all their limbs and the whole thing would have to start again.

Sad.

Ban on knives, alcohol, prescription meds, pot, cars, motorcycles, pillows (used for suffocation) and belts, scarfs, bedding, ropes for hanging. Scissors for stabbing and most anything in a store to poison.

On and on and on.

What needs to change are the laws because anyone with KNOWN mental health issues...such as someone committed to a mental health facility against their will....is NOT SUPPOSED to own a gun.

He didn't buy the guns. He allegedly took them from his mother. This will not go unnoticed by the gun control crowd.

I created this image in 1/2 hour using Google Images and MS Paint. Anybody can do the same. I suggest that this approach be taken to counter the coming firestorm against firearms. If you can't make an image, at least copy and share the ones you find.

Hollywood and the MSM created these monsters, and now Hollywood and the MSM will blame the tools, not the cultural wreckage they wrought. Let's turn the focus back around where it belongs.

Yes I understand that, but here’s my issue. They are crying for stricter gun control laws when they don’t even have anything in place to uphold the laws we have now! NO PERSON WHO HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH MENTAL ISSUES THAT REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION are allowed to have a weapon. Just like a felon. So...why aren’t mental issues available in a background check?

If a FELON is living in your home...you are NOT ALLOWED to have weapons in it. Should be exact same with a mental person. Whoever is housing them should not have weapons either. That mother should not have been allowed to have weapons with her mentally screwed up son there anymore than if he were a felon. JMHO....

It soon will be. You can count on that. I predict myriad new gun control laws coming down the pipe. Probably laws banning people who are on SSRI meds, prior misdemeanor drug and DUI convictions, etc. from owning guns or living in homes where guns are kept.

Good illustration. Thanks for creating and posting it.

We had shootings in the movies and murders in literature from the beginning; but now we got hands on murdering. Do video games let you simulate suicide? That could be a big hit nowadays! :)

I think the real big difference between then and now is pharmaceuticals. I am not knowledgeable about it.. I just believe the experts.
