'Our hearts are broken' - 20 children among dead in Newtown shooting (.223 NOT used)

It was one of the most tragic days in Connecticut history, and investigations continue into why, and how, a man could walk into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown and kill 20 children and six adults.

Police said 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire inside the school, killing children and adults before killing himself.

(snip)

Inside the school, the Associated Press is reporting that a custodian ran through the halls of the school, warning of a gunman, and someone inside the school's office switched on the intercom, perhaps saving dozens of lives by letting them hear what was unfolding inside the office.

Screams were heard, just for a few moments, but they gave teachers enough time to realize what was unfolding from within the building and immediately locking doors and getting students away from windows and doors.(snip)

According to the Associated Press, three guns were found at the scene - a Glock and a Sig Sauer, both pistols, inside the school, and a .223-caliber rifle in the back of a car Lanza drove to the scene. A law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity said some of the guns used in the attack may have belonged to Lanza's family.

Why do these things happen every time the liberals see a chance to override the 2nd amendment?

If they find a crisis they will exploit it and if they can't find a crisis they will make one to order.

How many magazines did he carry? He must have stopped to reload several times. So along with the mystery of why his mother owned a Glock and a Sig and left them unsecured around whacko boy, add the mystery of spare mags.

On a related note — we need to launch the Combat Custodian movement. Every school has at least one custodian on duty at all times. And if the oh-so-progressive teachers and administrators are horrified at the thought of firepower inside the school, then I’ll bet the custodian wouldn’t be quite so squeamish.

I fully realize that is not what they said all day yesterday, but “they” were apparently not too careful with the fact check

You are amazing.
No! Really!

I read the thread on Michigan's law ready to sign that teachers can get "enhanced" CCW and carry in schools in that state, and I commented to my wife that, while this is actually the ONLY correct response to the shooting, what candy-assed liberal Democrat teacher would take advantage of it to do the Right thing?

Sounds like you are an exception to my preconceived rule, and I apologize.

A Sig, a Glock and a Bushmaster seem more than a little bit out of character for a suburban Connecticut teacher's assistant, but not at all out of character for a GE Capital executive. I might be willing to bet a cyber-nickel that it was part of a settlement that her divorce attorney insisted on that they divided the household's firearms.

I had thought that one task that government has been charged with has traditionally been protecting the mentally ill. And those who the mentally ill might come in contact with, and might harm. Based on the end result, the government has failed yet again.

We will probably get all the grisly details on Christmas day.

I am seriously considering doing this...(gosh, I hope I’m not being monitored by the NSA right now...)

BTW, if/when I get arrested for the law about not having firearms within 1000 ft (or whatever) of a public school, would you be willing to get the FReepers to get my defense fund together? I’m assuming it would make the papers...

I just usually see Israelis with M-4's or -16A1's.
Maybe it's an old picture...

Or WAS on meds, which screwed up his moral compass. Some antidepressants induce suicidal urges, for teens in particular, and misery loves company.

I bet the NRA would help you too. And if you take out some murderous attacker you will be a hero. Just pack it quietly. Sheesh, many various people have pistols at their work, you just don’t talk about it, that’s all.

They said all kinds of contradicting things yesterday.

The mother was a teacher, no she was a teachers aid.
She was killed at the school, no she was killed at home.
The father wa killed. But the police where talking to the father.
The shooters first name was Ryan, now it’s Adam.
The brother Ryan was dead, but later he was not.

The list of crappy reporting goes on and on. During the initial breaking of any big story, a large part of the story will be completely made up. In few days we should have a better idea of what really happened.

Until people start suing the pants of these news organization for reckless reporting, nothing will change.

I would have though an Israeli would be better armed.

The M-1 is a low power weapon and would work better in schools as it would not penetrate walls into other classrooms as much as a 223. I think that she would have to make noise for a while until help arrived. All Israeli citizens must serve in the military and she would be trained to use the weapon. The muslim barbarians are much closer to the kids there.

She’s better off with an M1 Carbine than with any handgun on earth, especially if she’s smart and has it loaded with hollow points.

And she has it slung in a way that she bring it to bear very quickly.

Oh, I can imagine a bunch of my colleagues feeling the same way (and a bunch of them thinking, “Guns in the classroom aren’t the answer.”)

I live in NC - we do guns here. One of the concerns is that in such a place, when you announce, “We don’t do guns in this part of NC, (meaning: schools),” you are rigging the game. I don’t like to play in games with no-win scenarios—sounds too much like being a fool!

I want to carry openly in my classroom...I want the gun provided for me as part of my job requirements (they give me a laptop, they can give me a gun), I want the choice of caliber/mag capacity/barrel length/etc. If untrained in firearms use, I want this to be provided, too. In fact, I want expertise in firearms to be a requirement for all teachers. I do not need some “fumbler” in the classroom next to me, I want a true professional (hey, they might want to improve their teaching while they’re at it...some of my students can’t read or write too well!)

I wonder how the the (liberal) teachers of America are going to go in to their jobs on Monday (I wonder how many will call out sick!) Me? I’m going in (Man, that sounds like right out of a movie). I know God is in control and nothing happens apart from His notice (and it’s not being hypocritical, by the way. Check out: Luke 22:33-38), but I have rights in this country, and some set of bureaucrats have decided they can stop them wherever THEY see fit!

You don’t know too much about M-1 carbines, eh, bo.

You know this just brought this to mind. When I was in grammar school the old janitor carried an old Owlhead 38 pistol, we used to take new kids to the boiler room to get him to show it to them. We promised not to tell anyone and here it is 50 yrs later and I think this is the first time I have told anyone!

Would the old man have shot anyone over the kids? Dang right he would!

Photobucket Just having a gun in a gun free zone can get you 20 years... All schools are gun free zones. The feds couldn't care less about your rights. This horror is again the act of liberals who think they know better than our founders.

Speaking of Michigan, Isn’t that where a nutcase bombed a school in Bath and killed 40 children? I think that happened back in the thirties so this killing of school kids has been going on far longer than most people realize.
