The mother of Newtown school massacre gunman Adam Lanza was a survivalist who was stockpiling food because she thought the world economy was on the verge of collapse.
Nancy Lanza began hoarding such items because she feared that the financial crisis was going to bring about the end of civilized society.
She reportedly became 'obsessed' with guns and taught Adam how to shoot, but on Friday he turned on her and blasted the woman to death while she laid in her own bed.
Law enforcement sources told the Hartford Courant that she had not gotten up - and could have even been asleep - when her son killed her.
The killer's aunt said Nanzy Lanza was 'self-reliant.'
Speaking from her home near Chicago, Marsha Lanza, 57, said: 'She was stockpiling food. We talked about prepping a lot. She was getting ready for the economic collapse.
'I think she had the guns for self-defense because she lived alone.'

We are used to easy answers. Just type a question into the computer and you receive a fast answer. There is no fast and easy answer for why this guy did this. There are no fast and easy answers to prevent things like this from happening. Anyone who stands up and says they have an easy answer is a liar or an idiot, and probably both.
I agree with you to a degree, but note in the article it says he then took the car keys and car to go to the school.
Even if the guns had been stored offsite, if he was this intent, it would not have mattered.
Somewhere this “brilliant” kid had a plot and a plan...
Law enforcement needs to find it. They say he was a computer geek of sorts...well where is all the chatter about what’s on the computer?

Couldn’t tell you that for sure. I don’t whether a person with PTSD has a high propensity for violent outbursts.
I’m not saying it should be applied to everyone who has ever had a mental health issue by any means. But when someone is clearly disturbed and has shown an inclination towards violence, or their diagnosis is one with a high propensity to that end, yeah, it may be time to consider it.
This aunt must be the same goofy one I saw on TV yesterday.
Should be common sense but not something “we should consider”. Who is the “we”? The government?
Or maybe he killed her to get access?
How many mothers could ever believe their son or daughter was capable of murder?
My mother could and my dad could. And I believed my brother would one day kill me, until he finally was killed by the police in a “suicide by cop” scenario.
And yes, we all lived with guns in our possession. My parents at times with giving shelter to their dangerous son. Life and situations happen. There were many times I thought my parents fools, but if my brother had decided to go on a rampage in their home the only thing that would have stopped him would have been a gun.
And in the end it is what stopped him.
Now as far as the gun safe is concerned ...you make it sound like she handed him the key or combo. Or like the kid knew where to get it or find it. We don’t know that, yet. And to me, since he tried to buy a gun a week earlier ...seems to indicate he did not have ready access. So he schemed, spyed, etc. to gain access.

That is something I don’t understand in this scenario.
If that were to be the case, there'd be a lot fewer RAT voters and politicians out there.
OK let’s follow your thought. What could come out is some gubmit mental test or have their inspectors investigate you to make sure you or anyone in your family is not crazy.
The likely “crazy” test will be very common sensical to the anti-gun liberal progressives, “You have to be crazy to have guns. You must be crazy if you think the gubmit does not have your best interests in mind. So if you want a gun or don’t trust liberal progressive government you fail the test, No guns for you.
By all accounts, he was very intelligent. He might have deduced how to get into a safe. Breaking into a safe is something that's done all the time by criminals.
Which he was.
The worst mass murders in US history were committed without guns. Even the complete elimination of firearms in the US can't stop a determined and intelligent maniac.

Blood On The Hands Of The LEFT
I was just about to publish my latest editorial as promised, on Canada’s Supreme Court Decision to suspend Freedom of Speech, in favor of promoting one language over all others.
THEN THE CONNECTICUT SCHOOL-SHOOTING HAPPENED.
Next to language issues in Canada, and a failed Judicial System in both of our countries, what happened in Connecticut takes precedence.
I won’t waste words describing my feelings, because how I feel about as many as, and maybe more than 26 people murdered, including 18 children is indescribable.
BUT I WILL TELL YOU WHY IT HAPPENED:
It didn’t happen because of the so-called gun culture, or because of poor security at the school. It happened because of the modern LEFTIST culture that has removed all semblances of personal responsibility and respect.
It happened because of the Hollywood and television types who lecture the Conservatives on how people should live, while they make FORTUNES producing absolute FILTH in their movies and on television programs.
It happened because of reality television shows that demean humanity. And shows that make people laugh at the pain and humiliation of others.
It happened because multi-millionaire computer game producers create UGLY digital scenarios that poison young minds with abject and gratuitous violence.
It happened because the school system doesn’t teach values, and promotes the idea that everything goes. And that all people are equal regardless of the truth. And that no one ever fails.
It happened because LEFTISTS won’t allow concerned and loving parents to discipline their children, or raise their children the way they want to.
It happened because far too many Liberals spend far too much time and effort ridiculing and attacking people who want to live by the lessons of the Bible and the Torah.
In truth . . . this and other horrible acts of violence happen, because our society from our entertainment industry, to schools, to the media, and our governments have created the social and cultural foundation that is eating away at our countries like a cancer.
I know that what I just wrote WILL inflame those on the LEFT, and that’s OK, because if they don’t like it . . . they can ROT in HELL along with the demons of their own creation.
I want my old country values back . . .
. . . when we stood in school when an adult entered the room. When we were really disciplined for bad behavior. When we were measured by our successes and failures. When not everyone had to waste years of his or her life in college studying basket weaving instead of taking a trade course, or going to work right after finishing high school. When your mom was a woman and your dad was a man. And when there weren’t vulgar parades extolling the “virtues” of being gay.

The media can turn the focus off guns and onto something they hate even more: Preppers.
Except it needs to be a diagnosed mental illness. The gov't can't just make up new definitions of mental illness on a whim. (OK, maybe they can try. But not for long.) For every psychiatrist who will testify that someone is crazy, there will be another one who will testify that someone is perfectly sane. This happens all the time in criminal trials when the insanity defense is tried.
Most of the mass killers over the last few wears have been bona-fide crazy, and anyone talking to them for a few minutes would know they were nuts. They haven't been confined to mental hospitals because of the failure of the mental health care system, not because they aren't obviously mentally ill.
At issue for firearm screening is privacy concerns of the mentally ill and releasing medical information. But unless you've seen a psychiatrist, there wouldn't be a record of seeing a psychiatrist. And if you're not mentally ill, and people around you don't think you're mentally ill, why would you need to see a psychiatrist?
There is just no way that 200,000,000 American gun owners can be forced to be evaluated by psychiatrists. There aren't enough psychiatrists.
