Whenever I read stories like this the first question in my mind is: Where’s Dad?

I’m not sure a spanking is a miracle cure for serious mental illness. Operating on that assumption, what do you think this mother should do when nobody will listen to her about getting her son committed, short of locking up permanently in the basement like a horror-story monster or tearfully putting a bullet in the back of his head to put an end to all the suffering?

Then why in hell didn’t she have her guns locked up where the kid could not get to them, knowing how unstable he was and has been for along time???

How the hell do you or any other rumor monger in the press, know that she didn't? You are basing this information on the press who for several days said that she was a teacher of one the classrooms that was shot up.

LOL....Yes I do...You’d be amazed at how much that reduces the hair around the house, and when you have breathing trouble at times anyway, it helps.......Makes a huge difference and the cats don’t seen to mind, they just sit there until I am done.....

Where does it say anything about the father?

From what she wrote, the father is somewhere nearby and mentally ill like the son.

I didn't see that in the article.

This kid clearly had problems well before his parents divorced. Could be the strain of dealing with him that led to the divorce, who knows?

I do not recognize the right of the government to take my right to bear arms away...it is a natural right. Anyone who comes on my property trying to remove my firearms is a thief trying to steal my property and render me defenseless. They will be dealt with accordingly.

“We closed the asylums. We made the process of removing the dangerous from among us very very hard. They basically have to hurt someone and get the law involved before they are isolated from society.

Treatments are highly effective, but the mentally ill very often do not feel ill, and they won’t cooperate.

She has no where to turn.”

You are SO right. We are SO screwed...

If you’ve never had a mentally ill family member, you simply can’t understand.
What this woman is saying is terrible truth.
We closed the asylums. We made the process of removing the dangerous from among us very very hard. They basically have to hurt someone and get the law involved before they are isolated from society.
Treatments are highly effective, but the mentally ill very often do not feel ill, and they won’t cooperate.

I can totally relate. A family member has psychological problems which can be treated with drugs, but the person with the problem has to be willing to put themselves on the treatment; which is frustrating as all get out. It's truly a case of the inmates running the asylum, or in this case dictating the treatment.

The son sounds like a typical arrogant violent punk, not a person with a mental disorder. The most violent people I have known were all were egotistical, arrogant, entitled to preferential treatment. The aggressive often have inflated egos. Self-absorbed narcissists. The violent jerks I have had contact with were not oddballs, but were loudmouths and certainly not timid or shy as the media “experts” are telling me the people I need to look out for.... LOL.

The violent usually have a track record of violence that they always get away with and it escalates because they know they can get away with it. It didn’t just pop-up one day out of the blue.

The son should be prosecuted and jailed for the violence he has already inflicted, but our justice system won’t. They want various programs, mental health treatment, drugs, couseling, but it won’t work.

Violent jerk people come from a long line of violent arrogant jerk ancestors. It is programmed into them to be this way.

The current system gives everyone who acts up violently a slap on the wrist for crimes because “america locks up too many people” and “there are too many jails”. Gangbangers, sicko perverts, men who beat up their kids and wives are all walking around free and laughing ! Chris Brown, where is he? behind bars? He looks like he’s living the life. The criminally inclined think it’s a joke that they keep being let out and they’ve never had it so good.

If the violent are not taken out of society, why do people think the violence will stop? I had to laugh at Chicagoans always asking how to “stop the violence” in the city. more programs and other nonsense. They are the clueless leading the clueless. Lock up the gangbangers and criminals. stop letting them out to roam free again and again. Get them when they are young before they do something really heinous and throw away the key.

mental wards are not necessary.... for people that want to act out and be violent, there is jailtime and prison. This solution is not being used.

Mom's tried to get her committed, but can't because the daughter is adult age and has to commit herself.

How many times have you heard of murderers killing because they were off their meds. You can not force them to take meds. You can't save your family from the mental health bureaucrats or activists who think it all looks great on paper but ignore the families who know the terror of living with the mentally ill on a daily basis.

My heart goes out to the Mother in your post. She has nowhere to turn.

“....threats were there...”

If somebody makes a threat, isn’t that considered assault (battery is the actual physical event) and isn’t assault a reportable crime?
