Quentin Tarantino: Don't Blame Violent Movies for Newtown Shooting Tragedy

Don't blame Quentin Tarantino for Friday's tragic Newtown, Conn., shooting.

The Django Unchained director is tired of having to defend his use of violence in film.

"I just think, you know, there's violence in the world, tragedies happen, blame the playmakers," he said Saturday at a press junket, per the BBC. "It's a Western. Give me a break."

This is so disgusting, and to think it is being released on Christmas. God surely is sad that this great experiment called America, has gone the same way as the Roman Empire.

Perhaps not. But this isn’t about you or other normal people. If everybody was like you and me, we wouldn’t have copycat killings, now would we?

The fact is that a segment of out population, and probably a large segment if you consider youngsters in their formidable years, that ARE susceptible.

So, should Hollywood only make PG family-friendly movies?

Quentin Tarantino is hit or miss for me. I really liked his "Inglourious Basterds" movie, even if the plot was pretty stupid (like Hitler is going to go into a movie theatre with just one or two guards watching the exits). I liked "Jackie Brown" as well, which featured probably the best looking black woman I ever saw (and Max Cherry reminded me of myself). However, I can't stomach his movies like "Reservoir Dogs" (especially when that cop is being tortured) and the "Kill Bill" series. "Pulp Fiction" was pretty good if you can get past that scene where they jabbed that needle in that woman's heart after a drug OD.

I might check out this movie if only because I'm a history buff and would love to see his portrayal of pre-Civil War America in the South.

Overly violent films repulse me but I am not affected by them. I can watch "The Sopranos" without having the desire to become a mobster and whatnot. Remember that there was violent crime back when wholesome shows like "The Waltons" and "Little House On The Prairie" ruled the airwaves and you had Al Capone, Jesse James and John Dillinger before there was even TV or video games.

It’s not the movie’s fault or the video game or even the shooter’s.

The problem is racist hatefilled teabaggers from fly over country.

Their backwards values are what is leading to shootings like these.

But don’t worry - their punishment is coming. :)

Now go pay your taxes, your government is broke.

Choctaw,

Well said. Focusing on gun control allows Hollywood and others to deflect criticism.

It’s never movie or video game violence, nor the sick puppies that everyone around them knows is twisted and ready to go over the edge. It is only the inanimate gun that is to blame! When I was a kid and we had TV shows with clear cut Good Guys, Heroes and Bad Guys, when we played Army and Cowboys and Indians we did not have this extreme violence! I miss the days when children were disciplined in schools, before the experts told parents it was WRONG to say no to their kids and spanking became a crime! Now we are reaping the bounty of their stupidity with people that believe they are entitled to act out and behave any way that makes them feel good. Why is that liberals never want to blame the person for their foul deeds and only want to diminish the freedoms of the rest of us?

The Kill Bill movies were awful. I just turned the first one off, mostly because the characters were so boring and repellent.

Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were better films but made violence attractive and "cool," which movies like "Kill Bill" couldn't really do.

I don’t see your point. People rationalize violence, just like we rationalize every bad thing that we do. Every person that commits an act of premeditated violence has already rationalized it themselves. So what do the movies have to do with it?

This movie should be protested because it promotes gratuitous violence and racial hatred. It is also an insult against Christianity because it opens on Christmas day.

Hollywood adores the Dems and just loves to throw millions of dollars in donations at the Dems but it makes you wonder if there is not a quid pro quo going on? Does Hollywood get tax benefits or some other form of benefits from the Dems?
