Texas Gov. Rick Perry indicated Monday that he supported allowing teachers and administrators to carry concealed handguns in response to the Connecticut school massacre that left 20 children dead.
promenent should be prominent
EXACTLY!
After 911, we put ‘sky-marshalls’ in our planes. Why NOT let, at least the responsible gun enthusiasts in any school faculty carry? They can put em through special ‘safety’ training, certify them, whatever, but for goodness sakes, REPLACE those “Gun-free zone” signs with “Protected by anonymous armed personnel” signs.
The kooks will go somewhere else to rampage. Guaranteed.
And if that is a bridge too far for the libertards how about either a taser or pepper spray locked in a container in the desk of teachers and front office personnel? My understanding is several individuals tried to rush the shooter and all were cut down for their efforts.
Nationally, teachers resist common sense because the profession is under control of the Leftist NEA and it does not fit with the Leftist Political Agenda. Hence we have this Political Correctness disease in our schools and universitites.
In Texas it is not totally entrenched, there are alternate teacher’s organizations.
And the vast majority of Texans are for the maximum personal liberty and strongly support the 2nd Amendment.
You cannot reason with most liberals on this. They live in a fantasy world where simply declaring schools to be gun-free zones somehow makes them safer. They loathe basic concepts of self-defense and would rather have dead kids to exploit than live ones that grow up to think for and take care of themselves.
Here is a legislative proposal:
Let the teachers at each school decide if they want to arm. Couple this with school vouchers so parents can decide if they want their kids going to an armed school or gun free school. If teachers do not want to arm then parents should be allowed to volunteer.
Great platform for 2014!
Excellent thought.
Why let the teachers decide? Let the school board (the people) make that decision and if the teachers don’t want to teach in a gun protected school they can go elsewhere.
When I asked one of the teachers about it, he told me the Marines had MADE him carry a gun for over 20 years, and he wasn't about to sacrifice himself or his students just because some 'pecker-headed' school district couldn't comprehend the 2nd Amendment.
LOL!
Hey Perry, IIRC you are the Governor of Texas, quit flapping your jaws and make it happen.
There are laws on the books that would have to be modified, modify them instead of standing in front of a mic creating sound bites.
You need volunteers from the public, you could get them, just have to ask for them. Hey, could use these same volunteers to secure the border too.
Just flapping his jaws like always. Nothing will happen.
Because no one person or group of people have the legitimate authority to make such a decision for another person.
It's called an individual right for a reason.
Often times, the conservatives keep rather quiet about their politics. I, on the other hand, am a loudmouth and that's how I always find out who agrees with me.
School boards make decisions all the time that affect the safety of the kids.
Am also confident that are a number of Conceal Carry license holders already among them.
Allowing concealed carry on school property is a logical change.
I totally agree! Teachers should carry. There is no better way to protect our children!
:-)
Yes, I am all for ‘anonymous carry’ by the schoolteachers, principals, and office personnel.
Put a sign up too.
If any would be shooter is capable of understanding that sign it may deter that portion of the perp population.
The armed personnel would take care of the rest.
(gov. Perry is my governor, and I’m glad he came out and said that.)
Texas legislature only meets every two years (they do less damage that way. Luckily the next session begins in January. The thing to do is just amend the current law that restricts conceal carry on schools and universities. There is a precedent for this- at one time you couldn’t carry in churches in texas-but they did away with that restriction via amendment.
We need to pressure the legislatures in texas now- the libs generally fight pro-gun measures by stalling them until the session is over. If people push hard the legislature is too afraid to accept these stalling tactics.
Good point!
