Explaining Evil

Trying to explain an evil act like the one that killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., is on a par with explaining how the universe was formed.

The natural human reaction after extending sympathy and prayers for the victims and their families is to ask what actions might have been taken to prevent the massacre. More gun laws? Connecticut already has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. Those laws did not prevent a man with evil intent from carrying out his heinous act.

Some will blame TV and video game violence. Depictions of murder and other violent acts on TV and in the movies have grown in recent years, but people killed people long before TV and movies. Such explanations are too easy.

Would armed guards at Sandy Hook have helped? Possibly, but do we want guards at every elementary school, patrolling not only the halls, but playgrounds where kids ought to be able to play in an atmosphere of fun and freedom? That may be where we are headed.

What about locked doors? Sandy Hook's doors were reportedly secured, but the shooter still managed to somehow gain access.

As much as humans have tried for millennia to prevent evil acts, we have not succeeded. In the modern era, Woodrow Wilson believed his League of Nations would usher in peace on Earth, if not goodwill to men. The United Nations followed that aborted experiment. The U.N. has been equally unsuccessful in preventing the slaughter of innocents and other evil acts.

Political leaders not usually identified with spiritual concepts are making use of the word "evil' in accurately describing what happened in Newtown. We hear calls for prayers from politicians committed to the separation of church and state. Whether it is Columbine, Virginia Tech, Tucson, Aurora, Ft. Hood, Oklahoma City or the 9/11 terrorist attacks, evil seems to have gained a foothold in America.

Not every parent with a child in public school has the option of home-schooling, but that is something they might want to consider if they want to create a completely safe environment. Even private schools can't offer full protection from a deranged mind hell-bent on carnage.

More information about the killer will surface in the days to come, but even if we learn he was psychotic and off his medication, that will not satisfy our communal anger or anguish. It will not explain evil. It will not explain why 26 innocent lives were lost.

The way to deal with evil is to first acknowledge that it exists and that we all possess the potential for it. We don't become evil by what we do, but because of who we are. We are human beings, not God. We are not "basically good," as some claim, we are imperfect and fall far short of any true standard of perfection.

Evil is a "pre-existing condition." In some it is controlled by an inner compass, or by laws and cultural constraints. When it is not, we get Sandy Hook and tragedies like it. We get what we do not understand and cannot begin to fathom.

There may be no greater expression of evil than the murder of children in their classrooms. In calling for prayers, officials have taken an important first step in combating evil, but a larger question should be asked. Perhaps theologians, pastors, priests and rabbis are the ones to ask it, but permit me a suggestion.

If there is a source of evil, is there also a source of good? And if there is, has that source for good been offended by all of the accumulated evil we are piling up, affording it an upper hand?

As a friend of mine says, "Not a sermon, just a thought."

The mainstream media causes these shootings.

These idiots or psychos shoot people for the fame the media will give them.

The media makes these shooters household names.

These idiots seek the fame, attention or immortality the media will give them. That is the main reason. Can anyone tell me that the media has to keep blasting this creep’s picture and name all over ? or that they have to cover every detail of its life? NO. In fact the media have to know that just mentioning its name will give it the fame that it seeks and will cause other copy cats. But they know what they are doing . The media want to empower government and take away our individual rights including our right to protect ourselves with guns.

Right now the next idiot shooter is being created by the media coverage of the current shooter. In this new one’s sick mind he will be the next star . The media know this and they purposefully do it to create him

The media is the evil.

Guns did not kill those people, EVIL did. Evil will use what ever means necessary to carry out its mission.
Look at the recent deaths of the children in China, that killer did not use a gun, he used a knife. EVIL lives and this recent incident in the U.S. proves it.

The media know they are egging on the next star, promising them fame and immortality if they will just try to top or match the current shooter.

I have observed people and children all my adult life, beginning with those in my own family and I have come to the conclusion that some people are truly born evil and no amount of good parenting or advantages in life or anything else will change them..We need to try our best to do so, but I fear it cannot be done. On the other hand, I believe some are born truly good and that nothing will change them..Having said this, I am a Christian and I have read the Scriptures to try to explain my feeling about this to myself..I have come to a conclusion for myself but will not explain it here. I do not believe that all of us come into this world the same as far as good and evil are concerned. The greatest danger to society are those who are evil but possess an extreme charisa so that they can eventually dupe whole nations and enslave the people. Hitler would be an example.

GOOD VS EVIL 101

God is Good,

Satan is Evil.

Jesus defeated evil by dying on the cross for our sins, and by rising from the dead with resurrection power.

Those who believe in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.

Our nation has turned away from God.

Our only hope is to turn back to Him.

ISAIAH 59:1-2
Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you,
nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.
2 It’s your sins that have cut you off from God.
Because of your sins, he has turned away
and will not listen anymore.

2 CHRONICLES 7:14
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

In truth, what we are seeing here is the ongoing spiritual warfare that has been going on, but sadly becomes very visable through “horrible” shooting slaugthers such as what has had taken place late last week in Newtown, CT.

Also take into consideration two things, that God has given us free will and we can chose between serving God or the Enemy.

Also there is spiritual warfare that we do not see that is ongoing.

Explaining Evil

I don't think Evil is all that hard to explain. What I find hard to explain is that teacher who sacrificed her life to hide and protect the children in her care, children who weren't even hers.

If we are the product of un-directed evolution, then the actions of the shooter make perfect sense. The actions of the teacher do not.

The guy apparently felt no physical pain and was emotionally withdrawn, sort of a Sheldon Cooper. The father was reported as murdered. Who’s to say that someone came in and murdered the mother, causing the guy to snap?

We know only the anecdotal story of mental disturbance. We have no verification. We have no medical records. We have law enforcement statements, whose bosses are Obama and Holder, and we know their agendas.

He was reported as wearing a mask. Maybe this Adam was already dead and it was actually someone else?

B.S. Most people are basically good and have absolutely no capacity to slaughter a room full of children. The portion of this world does is insane. Before the enlightenment they were thought to be demon possessed. Now we know that they are just bat $#it crazy and need to be locked up for their own protection and ours.
