Sen. Manchin Stonewalls on Gun Control: 'Honey ... I'm Not Talking to You Anymore'
breitbart.com ^ | 12-18-2012 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 12/18/2012 9:21:04 AM PST by servo1969

In the wake of the tragedy, Democrats are calling to pass the Assault Weapons Ban. When asked by Breitbart News, Manchin disagreed that his remarks on MSNBC show his stance on the second amendment have flipped. "I didn't change my mind on anything. I think everything is open for discussion." It should be noted that Manchin, also known for breaking campaign promises on tax hikes, may have a difficult time explaining his turnaround on guns to voters in his own state. West Virginia, a state President Obama lost in 2008 and 2012, has one of the highest rate of gun ownership in the country: 55 percent own guns.

“I just came with my family from deer hunting,” Manchin said on MSNBC. “I’ve never had more than three shells in a clip. Sometimes you don’t get more than one shot anyway at a deer. It’s common sense. It’s time to move beyond rhetoric. We need to sit down and have a common-sense discussion and move in a reasonable way.”

Mr. Manchin made no mention of specific restrictions like his fellow Democrats have, he only referred to gun use in terms of hunting and sport and not self-defense.

“I want to call all our friends in the NRA, sit down and have this discussion,” he said. “Bring them into it. They have to be at the table. We all have to,” Manchin explained.

He later added, “I don’t know anyone in the hunting or sporting arena that goes out with an assault rifle,” he said. “I don’t know anybody that needs 30 rounds in the clip to go hunting. I mean, these are things that need to be talked about.”

I don’t know anybody that needs 30 rounds in the clip to go hunting.

idiot tries to change the subject, its about having weapons equal to our military....but he knows that and is playing dumb. If its just about magazine capacity what does he think of .50 caliber sniper rifle with 5 shot magazine?

Usually the problem is in the crappy military-issue magazines. You never know how old/used they are, and the springs wear down over time, causing improper feeding. As an easy workaround, we always just loaded 28 rounds into each mag, thus preventing any issues.

I’ve heard great things about PMAGs, though. I’m considering buying a few, especially if DiFi gets her way.

Has he called on all his friends in the gay community to sit down and discuss doing something about Penn State?

No? Then sit down and shut up.

always wanted a 1873 winchester like Billy the kid had.

Have a horse and would love to shoot on the horse and that kind if easy to put the round in the chamber.

I;ve only got a SIG P229 right now but would like to get a smaller handgun which I can carry as carrying that SIG in FL is hard to conceal.

Also used to shoot the L115 A , so I’d love to get a sniper rifle

No, not unless they're a discount brand or damaged.

USGI 30rd and Magpul PMAG 30, plus a couple of other specific brands, are extremely reliable.

Only Judge Louis Gohmert, congressman from TX gets it.

Manchin retreats to the “hunting” argument for semi-auto rifles, and the 2nd Amendment. This is NOT about hunting, bozo.

Gohmert stated clearly— this is about a public that under the 2nd Amendment has the right to defend itself against a tyrannical government. That government MAY NOT then define those rights, except as being decided by the CONSENT of the governed. The CONSENT.

The 2nd Amendment makes it clear who the “militia” is== it is all the people, armed. And armed against all enemies to our Free Republic- both foreign and domestic.

Oh, by the way the word “regulated” in usage of the 1700’s meant “well maintained”, that is to say within the standards of good firearm working condition. A “well regulated” militia would be one in which ALL keep their arms in top functional, and trained condition for “being necessary to the Security of a FREE State”.

THIS RIGHT, is an individual citizen right- as defined numerous times in landmark Supreme Court decisions.

how about sitting down with the homosexuals, radical left wing who have promoted abortion, rapes on boys by homosexuals, no morals, no respect, make divorce easier, no father about, parents being friends instead of giving discipline and telling kids off, how about stop giving boys when they fall over ice and a band aid for a boo boo which no one can see, how about stop running on the field when the boy gets tackled and asking if something is broken, they would know if it were broen trust me.

How about addressing guns which are ilelgal in the gangs, inner cities?

How about addresing the social decline from bad parenting.

How about going after Hollywood and video gamers.

Guns have been about for huindreds of years, social decline and crap like this started when the left went after the traditional family.

no coincidence.

Read the article. Manchin got really snotty with the reporter, repeatedly calling her “Honey”, and telling her she was stupid. I imagine his attitude was caused by the mass of criticism he got from his constituents when he flip-flopped on them. What a typical lying RAT.

Can assure you that, if this was the 1920’s, Manchin (whose background as a store owner/grocer puts him on the side of the “owners” so to speak) would be on the side of the machine politics of WV. This machine knows no party— except democrat (and in recent memory the “one bottle one vote” moonshine machine).

Manchin gravitates to the rural voters (white) who put him there despite his being a tool of the mine companies (who still have their own gun thugs vs. workers— and NO I’m not a union type). These people hunt for FOOD— because they have to, as well as being on the teat of govt for food stamps. So THAT is why his argument. WV is a FEUDAL state, owned outright by the Rockefellers in mineral rights.

And, btw, the LAST time this “assault weapon” issue came up, Senator Jay Rockefeller in 1994 was for the assault weapon ban-— ALL THE WHILE he had in his DC mansion- a Colt AR-15 (and maybe still does).
Here is a series on this episode:
“Link is dead, but the text lives on:

HYPOCRISY - Many may have forgotten that in 1994 Senator Rockefeller was caught in a slight scuffle with DC police over gun control laws. The following account appears on the Future of Freedom Foundation web site:
http://www.ff.org/freedom/0496d.asp

“Yet, as with most holy wars, some of the warriors are not without the taint of hypocrisy. Senator John Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, was a fervent supporter of the crime bill and the assault-weapons ban. A few days after the bill passed the Senate, the Charleston (WV) Daily Mail reported from Washington.

“If burglars are casing big houses around here, they may want to give wide berth to the Rockefeller mansion. The occupant is packing heat and knows how to use it. Senator Jay Rockefeller disclosed that for the past 25 years, he has been the proud owner of a Colt AR-15, a so-called assault weapon used in Vietnam. Rockefeller keeps the rifle in his Washington home.

“This was news to the Washington police, which ban the ownership of AR-15s in the District of Columbia. After Rockefeller was told that having such a gun in the District was a crime, he ‘remembered’ that he actually kept the gun stored in northern Virginia. Rockefeller also claimed that he was unaware that the District of Columbia banned such guns. Rockefeller has private security guards around his lavish Washington home, and the Senate office buildings where he works are heavily guarded by well-fed Capitol policemen. Yet he still feels entitled to own a gun that he wanted to severely restrict other Americans from being able to purchase.”

"aren’t 30 shot magazines prone to jamming?"

Regardless of capacity, poorly designed, poorly constructed, or damaged magazines may contribute to feeding problems. Well built magazines in good repair tend to work just like they're supposed to.

Some drum magazines have been around for a long time, for the Thompson, the PPSh-41, etc., and the design and manufacturing issues were resolved a long time ago.

Drums for ARs tend to be more recent developments and some do have a reputation for jamming. I suspect it's largely a matter of manufacturing tolerances, materials, and perhaps some inherent design issues. Eventually, I suspect those would be resolved (if the market is allowed to survive.)

Your last paragraph pretty much sums up the entire Democrat mantra on every topic they have an opinion about. You aren’t alone — I hear it too.

Good luck finding any 30 round PMAGs. Went shopping for some on the net today and everyone is sold out. Went to a local gun store and they had a few left...bought four. 20 round PMAGS are still available though.
