“His mother knew he had severe emotional issues and failed to secure her weapons. She screwed up.”

Precisely.

“Lanza’s mother said she wanted to introduce Adam to guns to teach him a “sense of responsibility.”

Maybe an FR psychiatrist or psychologist can jump in, but it appears to me that the kid was at least a sociopath, and demonstrated by his actions last Friday that he was psychopathic.

And now it turns out that he was being prescribed “Fanapt, an antipsychotic”?
http://www.fanapt.com/index.jsp?irmasrc=FPTWB0013 “Fanapt ... prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.”

In sum, his mother knew her son was psychotic but was allowing him access to firearms.

Salutations and consolations to our lurking lefty friends: In the morbid and quite possibly paranoid attempts of your `opinion leaders’ to assign blame here to `evil guns’, it looks like game, set and match to mental illness. Otherwise known as “liberalism”.

You can all now go crawl back under your rocks with the satisfaction that you actually made a indescribably horrifying matter even worse.
But that’s what you do, isn’t it, you bastards.

I think I was the first one here to post about the Fanapt report buried in one of the news stories.

It now appears that was a false report. Those news sources pulled that aspect of their stories, and there was a post on a forum that someone linked here that the man holding himself out to be “uncle Jonathan Lanza”, who gave the Fanapt report, was a scammer.

Idiot reporters should have asked for ID for someone holding himself out as a close family member.

Not only that, but allowing him to stay holed up in that basement playing video games all day didn’t help. Mom was not a good mom.

My nephew’s wife has a son with similar problems that she has so far fought to be successfully treated - and it was anything but easy. But the boy - as early as when he was barely able to talk - threatened a lot of people, mentioned knives and said he was going to kill everyone. The mother hid the knives.

Seems to me if you suspect something is wrong with your kids you don’t get them involved with weapons. Adam’s mother apparently was engaging in wishful thinking.

As "needing" psychopharmeceutical treatment, he may well have been a person prohibited.
