Speaker of the House John Boehner's "Plan B" to avert the fiscal cliff would cut taxes for incomes under $1 million a higher threshold than the White House demands, but one that had a powerful backer, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
In May, Pelosi sent Boehner a letter calling for the immediate passage of a middle class tax cuts up to that level, while President Barack Obama was on the campaign trail calling for taxes to rise on incomes over $250,000. The White House has since revised that target at $400,000 in ongoing negotiations with Boehner, but has shown few signs it would accept the $1 million level.
"Democrats believe that tax cuts for those earning over a million dollars a year should expire and that we should use the resulting revenues to pay down the deficit," Pelosi said in the (letter).
A month earlier on The Charlie Rose Show Pelosi went further, noting Democratic opposition to the $250,000 mark.
In our caucus, there is a school of thought that says lets get rid of all the tax cuts," she said. "I say, lets begin by getting rid of tax cuts for people making more than a million dollars a year. Im not even saying $250,000. The presidents saying $250,000. A million and above. Who can argue with that?
Boehner's backup plan would not deal with the mandatory spending cuts resultant from the failure of the super committee, while he is still negotiating with Obama for a more comprehensive solution that addresses spending.

Where's the conversation about spending cuts?
Proof that Bonehead works for The DC Party, not the GOP.
No, Bohner has to extend those tax cuts. The tax increases are automatic.
Holding the middle class tax cuts (<$1M) hostage would be as disastrous as it was when they tried that a year ago with FICA payroll. Only Obama and Dems would win.
I don't remember any talk about ‘the constitution’ being violated when GWB+R congress first passed these temporary tax cuts using budget reconcilation.
Back then it was” hallelujah, our taxes have been cut”
There are no tax cuts being proposed. There are only tax increases being proposed by anyone in DC right now and no one is even talking about reducing the rate of growth in spending much less any actually spending cuts. All of these people are hopeless
Pelosi was just on with Andrea Mitchel and claimed that she only offered a $1 Million threshold to the higher tax rate to “smoke out” a level at which the GOPe would agree to violate their principles and raise rates.
What would Tom Delay, Newt have done with Obama and Reid, the fiscal cliff?
I contacted the Republican Party. I’m sure I’m not alone. It apparently hasn’t done any good.
Please no one hear tell me we don’t need a third party-one that is fiscally responsible. You’re deluding yourself to think otherwise.
When Pelousy is on board with your plan you are no longer a Republican.
Oops...perhaps that was a Freudian slip.
So a woman with one of the most liberal voting records in the House backs Boehner’s plan?
....that’s a pretty big red flag right there....
