Police find no evidence Connecticut gunman was on medication

While Newtown buried two more young victims Tuesday in the shooting massacre, authorities said they found no evidence the gunman who killed 27 people was being medicated for mental illness.

Investigators searching the Connecticut home gunman Adam Lanza shared with his mother, Nancy Lanza, seized cellphones, computers and computer games, but found nothing at the residence to indicate he was taking medication, Hearst Connecticut Newspapers reported.

Authorities armed with search warrants are still working to obtain the 20-year-old man's medical records, according to the report. Lanza's parents told friends and divorce mediators that their son had Asperger's syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism, but it was unclear if he had ever been formally diagnosed.

Guns don't cause delusions, mania and paranoia. Some medications do including the one that he was on or withdrawing from.

Plenty of people have delusions, mania and paranoia including liberal anti-gunners, but that doesn't make them premeditated mass killers.

Then why do the drug ads warn about suicidal thoughts can be a side effect of these psychotrophic drugs?

There is an immense difference between suicidal thoughts and planning and executing mass murder.

“I am very prejudiced against the psychiatric profession and I admit it up front. I believe (I am not an expert and I’ve never played one on TV) that the common denominator in all these killings is the drugs.
I’ll believe that until someone gives me solid evidence I’m wrong.”

I’m with you greatgrandma. The uncle had stated that Adam was on Fanapt which is a fairly recent drug to come on the market in May 2009. Why would the uncle make something like that up? Doesn’t make sense...

But what does make sense is that the same kind of side effects such as lacking empathy to the point that one could murder these innocent little 6 & 7 year old little boys and girls is the same type of behavior that these mothers who murder their own children express.

If this report is true...that no medications were found (of course, most reports of this tragedy have been wrong)...then...

It is quite possible that Ma Lanza refused to medicate her child. It is also quite possible that she was in denial that her son was really that “bad” psychologically

I have seen this in my extended family....the denial and co-dependence of the caregivers that their loved one is “mentally ill”....or routinely makes excuses about them.

I think a lot of what went wrong with Adam Lanza can be traced back to what Ma Lanza did, or did not do. Not trying to totally “blame” her...she seems to suffer from a lot of the same issues caregivers of the mentally ill face. The system is more to blame than Ma Lanza

ROFL, THAT'S SO FUNNY. You get the idea now.lol

...."Well, at least Whorealdo identified the guns used in the Conn shooting as “Weapons of Mass Destruction” ..so now at least we know where the Iraqi WMD’s went!"""".....

He's not the first I've heard call them WMD's. Chris Wallace said the same thing on his Sunday Show. I went "WHAT"? Where the heck did that come from, but Saddam had NONE. gheez

The crazies are running the asylum. By the time we get through all this, I will need a prozac, and I don't take any drugs, none.

I am very prejudiced against the psychiatric profession and I admit it up front. I believe (I am not an expert and I've never played one on TV) that the common denominator in all these killings is the drugs.

They made my mom’s life miserable and therefore it affected our whole family.

I was engaged not too many years ago to a woman who had lost a child when she was young, and every year around his birthday she would go through a few weeks of mourning for him. Her place of work had comprehensive health and free psych counseling, and she decided to take advantage of it. Those people took a healthy, happy woman and diagnosed her with a host of psychiatric ailments, and hooked her on a couple psychoactive prescriptions that totally changed her personality. We were never married. They took an intelligent independent woman and turned her into an erratic dependent addict who wouldn't take a trip to the grocery store without her medications.

Having a loved one die is one kind of loss, having someone just disappear and be replaced by a totally different person...there's no way to prepare for it.

You make a very valid point. Sometimes thinking about mans’ ability to treat others inhumanely is more than one can understand.

Yes, but had the bass turd killed himself prior to killing his mother and going to the school, we wouldn't even be having this discussion, would we?

Just wondering, do you have a degree in psych, or work with troubled kids? The way you have spread your vile words here about a Mother you know nothing about, is quite amazing.
It’s so easy to spit out your silly opinion about spoil the child ad nauseum, it’s comical.

Shame on you, unless you personally knew this woman and her evil son, I think you would be better off not yapping like an ignorant fool.

Somehow I believe you will charge at me, armed with all your silly words about spare the rod et al, save it tough girl.

What about all the mass killers that weren’t on drugs? Drugs or lack thereof will not automatically turn a person into a premeditated mass killer.

If you would go back and read the post I responded to, and my response, you will note the original poster asserted that drugs could NEVER cause someone to be a killer. I noted that in some circumstances it could happen. Life is not “all” or “nothing”, “always” or “never”

There was a report from an apparent scammer purporting to be an uncle who claimed psych meds were being used. The sources all pulled their stories.

And that report now appears to have been made by a scammer claiming to be an uncle. The Fanapt report is bogus, unless you have a credible primary source.

Your story of the young woman is very sad, and I feel very common. Some of it starts early in schools with the drugs.

Even in Elder Care, I feel way to many Drugs are prescribed.

Yet, it seems there is no choice when the Courts side with the EXPERTS and parents are left to the mercy of the Pros., on what happens to their loved one. Sad world.

Thanks. I cannot believe the level of nastiness and self-righteousness in some of the posters here, about the origins of mental illness.

They talk about the most severe levels of mental illness, levels that cause actual brain changes and brain shrinkage, as a parenting pproblem.

Not every mental illness is a conduct disorder or oppositional defiant disorder that responds to parenting skills.

Your claim that the Fanapt report is bogus is based on what? Certainly not this story.

Agreed, anyone who has had even the slightest interaction with kids who suffer from these horrible issues would understand and not spout off such garbage.

I do wish the Dad would speak up and shed some light.
Last I read, he and his new wife have left their home and gone into hiding. Now what does that accomplish?!
