NRA promises "meaningful contributions" to avert another Newtown
CBS ^ | 12/18/2012 | Brian Montopoli

In its first comment following the horrific shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the National Rifle Association today said it is "prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again."

The NRA went silent in the wake of the tragedy last Friday: The gun-rights group's Facebook page disappeared, it stopped sending out tweets, and it told reporters that "[u]ntil the facts are thoroughly known, NRA will not have any comment."

On Tuesday, the group said it would hold a "major news conference" on Friday, December 21 in the Washington D.C., area to further explain its position. It did not offer additional details on the press conference.

You would think NRA would say the killer got DENIED when purchasing a gun, the system worked. There's no way to prevent him from stealing it from his mom.

That may be one of the items they plan to mention on Friday.

“(NRA Caves?)”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why did you add this “editorial comment” to the headline? Do you believe - word for word - this CBS report? Have you corroborated these “facts” with other news sources?
Or do you - like so many others - just go for the knee-jerk rection when the libeal media spins their agenda?
The NRA is our 500lb gorilla, let’s hope they come through on the right side.
"Meaningful Contributions" from the NRA long ago turned into the same thing as "Meaningful Contributions" from the Republican Party to me.
For right-minded gun owners, it means BOHICA.
Without an AR-15 he could have done the same damage with two Civil War Henrys and several CW pistols.
Perhaps. Here’s a chance for the NRA to turns this tragedy turned political football into a, as much as I hate this smarmy phrase, teachable moment.
He could have killed just as many children and adults with a shotgun. And, he had access to at least one.
USAToday:
The National Rifle Association has put out a statement saying it is “prepared to offer meaningful contributions” to prevent more violence like that which occurred in Newtown, Conn., last week. The organization said it will hold a news conference in the Washington, D.C., area on Friday.
Also the NRA could inject some perspective in the gun control argument. In a way, the NRA was the original civil rights movement. In the midst of the lyncings going on in the late 1800-early 1900’s the NRA was advocating helping poor Blacks obtain firearms and ammo to protect themselves from the White supremacist/kkk wing of the democrat party.
“Without an AR-15 he could have done the same damage with two Civil War Henrys and several CW pistols.”
From what I understand, it took 20 minutes for the first responders to arrive. In that amount of time he could have done the same damage with a bolt action 22.
No doubt.
Anyone who honestly thinks it’s the AR is a complete moron. In a closed environment, he could have probably used a powerful slingshot of 5 and 6 year olds.
From the NRA website:
“Important Statement from the National Rifle Association
Posted on December 18, 2012
The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.
Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.
The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.
The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.
Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time”
I suspect they will offer something, and maybe ask for the ability of some teachers to be armed. More than likely they will offer the AR platform to be banned (most of the older, moneyed donors don’t like them anyway).
Why not discuss the facts? EVERY shooter chose a gun free zone, because they knew the people there had no self defense. Had one - just one - person been armed anywhere, the carnage could have been prevented. Instead - guns were outlawed.
If this is what happens in buildings that are disarmed, imagine the horrors that would happen to our entire country if it were disarmed!!!!
NRA promises "meaningful contributions" to avert another Newtown
Free firearm training for school teachers?
Assistance for school teachers to get CCW permits?
I can't think of anything else they could do.
Dem’s Mass Murders Enabling Plan:
Make more people into sitting ducks so more mass murders can be done.
This mass murder was enabled by the Dem Party and they should be jailed for accessory to the crime.
Me either. Offer handgun training to any teachers willing and help them with retrofitting desks with drawer locks accessible by the teacher’s hand/palm-prints.
As long as public schools are `gun-free’ zones they remain killing grounds for mentally ill gun-thieves. If I had school age children I would home-school them.
