Full Title-"ABC News producer inundated with porn spam after tweeting interview requests to relatives of shooting victims"
A spokesman for ABC News told The Daily Caller on Monday that an influx of emailed pornography led the network to close down an email account and several social media profiles belonging to an editorial producer, in the days following the Friday mass-murder at a Connecticut elementary school.
Weve had to change all of her accounts, ABC News Senior Vice President Jeffrey Schneider said of Nadine Shubailat in a voicemail message left Monday morning.
Shubailat sent tweets Friday to at least two people she hoped to book for interviews because they had personal connections to families with children at the Sandy Hook School.
One of them now famously replied, Eat a dick.
TheDC reported early Monday morning that Shubailats Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ accounts were taken offline after those tweets went viral beginning Friday afternoon.
We took those down, Schneider said Monday during a follow-up phone call.
He told TheDC that Shubailat had received 400 horrible, pornographic messages from members of the public, and one message that she interpreted as a threat to her young son.
It said, His body should be covered with the blood thats on your hands, Schneider recalled angrily. He said the message included a photograph of her son from a publicly accessible portion of her personal Facebook profile.
By Monday afternoon that profile which was still online early in the morning was also deleted.
Despite broad coverage from Gawker, Salon.com, the video news service Newsy, an article on the social-media website giant Reddit that attracted more than 1,300 comments, and tweets from all over the world, Schneider claimed Monday in a voicemail message that he was certain it was readers of The Daily Caller who harassed his broadcast producer.
We had to change her email and she had to change her Facebook page because of the unbelievably vile and horrible threats she received after you posted your story, he said. Your readers jammed her with porn sites, death threats against her son and other things. So thats why that happened.
Schneider did not respond when TheDC noted during a phone interview that Shubailat included her own ABC News email address in the text of her controversial tweets.
He did, however, defend her actions on press-freedom grounds. Shubailat angled for interviews Friday via Twitter during the early, chaotic hours after the shooting when many parents with children at the school didnt know whether their sons and daughters were alive.
Do you want us to wait until the police and the government releases that information? Schneider asked. I cant believe thats the kind of country you want to live in.
Schneider did not mention the on-camera interview ABC News correspondent George Stephanopoulos conducted Friday with Connecticut State Police Lieutenant Paul Vance, the chief law-enforcement spokesman in the days following the Newtown, Conn. shooting.
Schneider also accused TheDC of reporting falsely that the network had fired Shubailat over the resulting controversy. I certainly hope youll either be taking down or amending your story about Nadine being fired, he said in one voicemail message, which is self-evidently just a lie. Nadine very much works here.
TheDC never reported that the ABC producers employment at the network was over. Monday mornings article carried a subheadline reflecting that she was still on ABC payroll, but not on Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+.
The articles first paragraph read, in part, ABC denies Nadine Shubailat has been fired for soliciting interviews online from panicked people.
During a news conference Monday, Lt. Vance implored reporters and other news bureau staffers to leave affected families alone as they grieved.
Weve been asked by the family members to ask the members of the press to respect their privacy and to please leave them alone at this time, Vance said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Im pleading with you, as you know this is an extremely heartbreaking, difficult thing for these folks to endure. Please abide by their request.
Literally, the word is plea, he added, according to Canadas CTV television network. Many of the families have asked to please afford them their privacy as they go through this terrible, terrible tragedy.
Despite hosting a website home page that includes extensive coverage of the Sandy Hook School shooting, ABC News has not reported on those remarks from Vances Monday press scrum.
I believe the connecticul PD had an officer with each family who answered the phone and became a protective barrier to keep out the media and left wing cause prostitutes.
but only 400 emails?
ABC should have had their web servers over flowed by now.
The media in this country are a bunch of disgusting whores! We get it! It’s a big story, report the facts and then STFU and leave the people in Newtown alone!!!! They are all just looking to make a profit off of the blood of dead children!!!! I despised these a-holes before for being largely responsible for destroying this Country. Now they are just disgusting profiteers who will do anything to make a freaking buck. A pox be on all of their houses!
At this link explains the Media’s way of BS! It explains why Media does that kind of $hi*.
To whoever did this: Good work!!
The public has a right to know, freedom of speech and all.
"The hamsa (Arabic: خمسة khomsah, also romanized khamsa, meaning lit. "five") is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa, and commonly used in jewelry and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history, the hamsa is believed to provide defense against the evil eye. The symbol predates Christianity and Islam. In Islam, is also known as the hand of Fatima, so named to commemorate Muhammad's daughter Fatima Zahra."
Google “Shubailat” and you see a collection of muslims. Shubailat is an Arab name.
Exactly.....the so called media are the worst hysterical reactionaries I Have witnessed in my lifetime. Children that will never grow to be responsible adults because they never wait for the big picture. This is what liberals are, and getting worse, they may be 40 or 70,but remain immature, and irresponsible.
I thought only radical right wing, knuckle dragging Christians found pornography offensive. I would think an enlightened member of the media would embrace it as an expression of free speech and sexual liberation.
I wonder if the editorial producer would make such a valiant effort to get to the bottom of Benghazi or Fast and Furious. Probably wouldn’t get near as much vile response, although perhaps deadlier.
What I would like is for the mass media which performed so horribly on the day of the shootings to give grieving families a rest and worry about being accurate instead of being first.
We have one here who helped drive a man to suicide. He’d been up on false charges and she’d been going after him for a year and reporting lies. His life was ruined. He’d never get a job again. She wouldn’t back off when the family asked her to. When she reported on the sucide, she had the nerve to post his booking photo despite the fact that he wasn’t in jail nor had been convicted. Hundreds of people emailed, called and complained online but she’s still working there. Disgusting. I throw up a bit everytime I hear her name on the local news.
Let’s make newsrooms ‘gun free zones’ just like the schools which means only having some cameras and a buzz-in system. I also hope that these ‘journalists’ practice what they preach and reside in ‘gun free zones’
‘Sandy Does Hartford’, starring new porn sensation, Sandy Hook
Do you want us to wait until the police and the government releases that information?
I bet you media whores did a bang up job on Benghazi!
Not only that you looked the other way, you never asked any 0b0z0id about it.
Four Americans were killed when a stand-down order was given and outside help prevented.
What say you, newsman?
The Hollywood Knights: " I believe he's looking for someone named Dick!"
Yeah, I figured as much. I think I had to read “The Shubailat” by Omar Khayyam back in college.
