Vice President Joe Biden is expected to lead the White House task force to examine more gun control legislation, but back in 2008 he did everything he could to convince voters that his running mate supported the Second Amendment.
“I guarantee you Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey,” Biden said to voters during a campaign stop in Castlewood, Virginia on September 20. “Don’t buy that malarkey. They’re going to start peddling that to you.”
Biden informed the crowd that he was the proud owner of two guns.

If ol Slow Joes Semi auto Beretta shotgun is legal then all semi autos should be legal.

Shotguns and handguns are safe. It is the automatic guns that are in jeopardy. However, people keep forgetting that it will be at least a year til any kind of gun law goes into effect so get out and buy buy buy before the law changes. Oh and by the time the gun owner needs to replace the gun, the laws will change back again just as it did the last time.
I wouldn’t assume anything here. Not with Obama.

No, according to the widely circulating summary of Feinstein’s soon-to-be proposed bill, any gun with a detachable magazine will be banned. That includes handguns. It would actually cover pretty much all the popular guns like the Glock 17.
As to when a new ban would take effect; well that I don’t know, but it sounds like they would try to make it take effect as soon as possible.
As to any new ban eventually going away as the last one did; I don’t think so. For one thing, they probably won’t need a sunset to pass it this time, and the electoral prospects for the GOP are only going to get dimmer thanks to (mostly immigration driven) demographic changes.
If there is an expiration date, then yeah, maybe in 10 years the GOP might have the House and/or Senate, and would possibly refrain from reauthorizing the ban. But they’d face overwhelming pressure to do so. But again I think a sunset provision in the bill will be very unlikely.
And if there is no sunset then there is almost zero chance of ever overturning it. Leaving aside the decreasing likelihood of every having a conservative President, w/o a sunset then they would actually be actively voting to bring back the dreaded ‘assault’ weapons. That won’t happen.
The only real chance is for the GOP House to hold firm now, then keep control in 2014, and then hold firm until Obama is gone. Maybe then the threat would subside for a while.
