Both sides have given up ground in the "Fiscal Cliff" negotiations in Washington, but the surprise tactic of the Republicans to put forth a "Plan B" has suddenly thrown the whole deal into doubt.
Republican House Speaker John Boehner essentially stormed out of the negotiations a couple of days ago and put forth his own bill, which he refers to as "Plan B." This bill extends the Bush tax cuts for all Americans except those making $1 million or more.
Greg Valliere, the Chief Political Strategist at Potomac Research Group, says the Republican ploy is the "worst case scenario" for the negotiations.
Valliere now thinks it is likely that the "deal" will slip into next year and may not happen as early in January as many people expect.
So, what would finally galvanize Washington lawmakers and get them to do what American citizens elected them to do? (Lead.)
A stock market crash.
If Wall Street finally begins to believe that this isn't just kabuki theater--that our leaders really are incompetent and might drive the country off the cliff--the stock market might drop in anticipation of a coming recession. And this, Valliere says, might suddenly wake up the politicians, who would then begin to worry about getting fired because of the crappy economy.

Nonsense. The market would prefer the “fiscal cliff” because the outcomes are ‘known’ as opposed to a worthless negotiations which we would get a worse deal.
This first sentence is the biggest load of BS ever constructed. Obama has not given up ground on ANYTHING and all that Bonehead has done is capitulate.
The Author is truly living in BIZARRO WORLD!
I will repeat from another thread: Here's a couple of tips for our= R side:
1) Stop demanding that House Republicans throw us off the cliff by refusing to extend the tax cuts to the 98.8%. There is a reason why Pelosi is trying to defeat this bill that she originally asked for in letter to Bohner. Is was a tool to beat up on Rs with all year and now that they call her bluff she is against it. DUHHH
Pass this bill in house and get on every TV station and repeat OVER AND OVER “We passed the Pelosi plan to protect the 99.8% from higher taxes, and now she voted against HER OWN PLAN. PLEASE call her office and tell her to stop playing games with your taxes”
2) Next, go on all TV stations and repeat over and over that Dems are killing their own written (bluff) proposal, and wave the Pelosi letter around as a prop(a poster saying 'Pelosi proposal 'LOL) ,
and say they are now against their own plan to throw us off the cliff to get a better deal on tax increases. Demand they stop playing games with struggling Americans lives.

Boehner didn't storm out of anything. They like to try to pretend that Obama is always cool and reasonable and Boehner throws tantrums.
Bunch of garbage. Obama is "storming" all over the place. Boehner is very cool.
So this isn’t Boehners Plan B, but Pelosi’s Plan B??
She said she will vote against it and she will will get nearly all her D members to vote against it too.
Apparently she was not serious about it, just using reverse psychology, like she did on her kids, to make Republicans dance on the strings to her tune..except this time many want to side with her and O to destroy themselves
I guess she plays to win, to beat and crush and humiliate Republicans over and over, many of whom seem to LOVE it.
Good reply... nice to see some rationale thinking here on the FREEP!
Thanks dude, I posted a vanity here weeks ago spelling out this strategy, and I dont even like Bohner but I am long tired of Republicans getting whipped for acting stupid.
I am going to post THEIR plan C in a vanity, you may get a kick out of it..
The big mystery of the moment is, Why hasn’t Obama left for his vacation in Hawaii yet, or even allowed Michelle and the girls to go on ahead of him?
It’s completely out of character for either of the Obamas to miss a chance to go on a vacation or to waste millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money on anything, particularly on enjoying themselves.
Not to mention that the President by remaining in Washington is even now giving up the opportunity to create traffic problems for his fellow Americans — an activity which seems to have become his second favorite form of entertainment after golf — by allowing Hawaiian residents and vacationers to enjoy a few days of their Christmas vacations in peace and happiness without his intrusive presence.
If John Boehner and the Republicans would keep just one simple promise and pass Plan B today, as they declared they would yesterday, then we would at least soon know where the Democratic Senate stands, and the fiscal-cliff issue could be resolved for this year.
But why would John Boehner want to destroy is sterling record of never keeping his promises by actually bringing his plan to a vote when he said he would?
Ploy? Obama has spend YEARS lecturing us... even in televised special addresses to Congress... about "millionaires and billionaires" paying "a little more" and their "fair share."
The Speaker calls the Dems' bluff and offers no tax increases on anyone not in that class of high income earner and it's dismissed as a "ploy?"
