White House press secretary Jay Carney ducked questions about former Sen. Chuck Hagel's comments about Israel but praised his service in the military and the U.S. Senate.
"Sen. Hagel fought and bled for his country," Carney told reporters Thursday. "He served his country well."
Hagel served as an infantry officer, eventually earning two Purple Hearts and a number of other service awards.

So did Bob Dole and John McCain. What is your point, White House?
So what? Many of us did, and we want to keep our guns.
This is all so transparent. Jerks in the WH call up Washington Post to print a puff story about Hegel extolling his military service. Thank you for your service Mr. Hegel but Benedict Arnold was a better soldier.
So did Benedict Arnold
I don’t care if Hagel could defeat the entire Justice Leage in battle, his attitudes are distinctly anti-American, most definitely anti-Christian (hum... No wonder obama’s praising him!)
Are his war memories seared, seared into his mind?

thank you for link
So did Benedict Arnold, and then he became a traitor.
“So did Benedict Arnold, and then he became a traitor.”
Tell me, you are not calling Senator Hagel a traitor?
One might disagree with the Senator’s positions, but that does not make him a traitor.
The GOP’s overplay of the “patriotism” card (especially by non-veteran pols and pundits) has led most voters to pretty much ignore what Republicans say about national security.
when is U.S. military service either important or positive to a Liberal politician - when they want to use it politically and never in its own right
Hagel’s past fitness to serve in the military is irrelevant; his fitness to be Secretary of Defense is a question of his fitness in terms of today’s real-world security issues and THAT begins with understanding who are our real friends and enemies in the world - something I think Hagel is lacking in
Can you provide some examples of this behavior? I am curious about what you view as the "patriotism" card and how it has been overplayed.
I’ll go along with the statement. My former (thank God) senator IS a traitor to the Constitution and the oath he swore to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
UpChuck should go away and stay away.
No. A sergeant is not an infantry officer.
