They will have to make sure that it's done in a way that doesn't split the ticket and let Pelosi have the most votes.

I think there are quorum rules for this vote, where a vote for present is not a vote for Pelosi. I read some threads about it last week. It sounds more like a caucus vote - you keep voting until someone crosses a threshold or someone drops out.

If Boehner gets what is essentially a "no confidence" vote, would he continue to run and twist arms stronger, or would he drop out and let someone else be Speaker?

From what they have recently shown etc, I don’t believe they have enough sense to pull it off.

Naturally, I hope I am wrong but I don’t have much confidence in them. Especially since Boner tried his scorched earth policy so he must feel he has enough votes to keep his seat, otherwise he wouldn’t have purged the Conservatives....
