For the first time, struggling BlackBerry maker Research in Motion saw a decline in its subscriber base, reporting that the number of customers declined to 79 million in its fiscal third quarter.

Three months ago, the Canadian company had 80 million subscribers.

Revenue for the third quarter was $2.7 billion, down 47% from $5.2 billion in the same quarter a year earlier. The company posted a loss of $9 million, or 2 cents a share, compared with a profit of $265 million, or 51 cents a share, a year earlier.

My wife has had four Blackberry’s and none of them was worth the money we paid for it. IMHO.

Oh well. There go some more jobs.

I remember when it seemed like everyone had a Blackberry. The technology just didn’t keep up with Droid, IPhone, etc.

No wonder they lost subscribers.

That smartphone will never fit in anybody’s pocket or any lady’s purse.

RIM sat on its laurals a little too long. I also had a Blackberry, but when it died, I went Windows.

I’ve used Blackberry for several years; but when I recently got a phone, I learned why they are on the way out. For starters, my company has to dedicate a server to enterprise software, in order for me to sync to email....so they encouraged me to try something else. Next there is an extra twenty dollar a month charge to use a Blackberry with ATT. Finally...although there were models on display, the employees at the ATT store scoffed at the idea of buying one. They are in for a rapid decline.

Doesn’t BO use a BlackBerry?

Think he’ll switch to an iPhone?

I'll keep mine as long as they are around simply because I don't value bells and whistles. As long as I have my last 8-10 years of contacts and I can make a call and send a text or email I'm cool...

I am on my 5th Blackberry. I also have an iPhone that I used for a couple months. I need two phones to have my regular cell number and capture a landline in a different zone from my home.

I have the iPhone forward to the Blackberry. I find the iPhone very irritating that I have to swish it to get to the email instead of having it on the screen. I never browse on it because I use my iPad for that. Voicemail and email are all I want on a phone.

Note to self:

Do some research on them fancy new CB telephones everybody seems to be buying.

Do I need one? If not, why does everyone else? Very interesting.
