NRA membership rolls are rising rapidly at a record-setting pace, increasing by 8,000 new NRA members per day since the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting. According to Fox News, both the number of individual contributions to the NRA and their average amount have risen significantly in the period following the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

Unlike many who are using the school shooting as a political club, the National Rifle Association (NRA) has been staying quiet out of respect for the Newtown victims. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, on Tuesday the NRA released a statement:

8000 per day

72000 new member of a political action group

which at 10 voters represented for each 1 member works out to

720,000 VOTERS!

so far

we have to keep this going for the 2014 election.

when will this number hit 100,000 new members?

the MSM will make it look as small a number as possible.

Me too. After reading the transcript from the press conference, and how much the MSM hated it I decided they must be doing something right.

Stands to reason...if a fascist dictator like Obama comes for your books you would join a literature defense club.

Safety in numbers.

Only the 2nd Amendment demands American patriots to be more proactive against tyrants who seek to not only disarm your ability to think but your ability to defend your very life and the lives of your family.

The NRA plays the political game to some extent, but they are the biggest kid on the block. I belong to GOA and local gun-rights orgs too. This is a good sign.

That’s odd. The commenters at the Wash Post assured me that the NRA is a spent force.

Anyone who doesn’t see an armed insurrection just over the horizon just isn’t paying attention. When will they learn to stop poking the bear?

...GOA and local gun-rights orgs too.

NRA and GOA and GOAL protect one of our most essential civil liberties.

Kinda make you wonder where the ACLU stands in all this...

"Will the NRA defend gun owner rights as these new members hope?"

Yes. See for yourself behind the following link. Follow the link to the original news site, and read it all. All: join the Second Amendment organizations of your states, too (very important). The fees for the NRA and the state organizations are minimal. Even more minimal donations are accepted from people who can't afford much.

I rejoined the NRA after a leave of absence following things they did that irritated me. But our rights are being challenged as never before and we have to have the NRA in our corner.

I also joined the Second Amendment Foundation.

I speak from the yankee state of Pa purely because of a couple of big cities. There are many. Question is the resolve of the whole country.
