What an ignorant, dishonest and pathetic response to Sandy Hook today from the National Rifle Association.
As a media critic, I will limit myself to the disingenuous attack on the media from Wayne LaPierre, chief executive of the organization. Of course, it's a shameless attempt to avoid accepting any responsibility by his organization.
But in the interest of a sane discussion about media violence -- rather than the demagogued, crazy-right-wing-paranoid speechifying of LaPierre -- some social science research, facts and context need to be presented.

Mr. Zuraw is quick to attack an Amendment he doesn’t care about and equally quick to defend the Amendment his livelihood depends on.
Have you figured out the lesson LaPierre is trying to teach you, Mr. Zuraw?
I didn’t think so. He advocates for the destruction of the Second Amendment not realizing that by doing so he indirectly advocates for the destruction of the entire Bill of Rights.
Mr. Zuraw, don’t say to yourself that the First Amendment won’t be harmed (it already has been), or that politicians wouldn’t dare attack it. The Gun crowd told ourselves that for a half a century and look where we are at now. You will be next if we lose.
One would think that liberals would endorse having armed police on every campus in America, since they won’t take responsibility for protecting themselves and think that statist agencies like the TSA and Homeland Security are a good thing. Besides, having a bunch of cops on campus will get the children used to being good little sheeples.
Evil has no reflection. They are once again blaming someone else for their liberal policy failures.
The NRA has never advocated for any type of pro-death policy. The media celebrates those policies.
The Sandy Hook killers name and image, like all the crazed killers before him, will now be added to the medias celebrity hall of fame.
If this killer manages to get the American people disarmed, he could be nominated Times left wing hero of the year. A 10 foot Nobel Emmy Peace Prize would become his tombstone.
Just what responsibility does the NRA have for the Sandy Hook shootings? How does an organization that lobbies for responsible gun ownership bear any liability whatsoever for a madman who acts completely on his own, in utter defiance of not just the NRA but humanity itself, and uses weapons he stole?
This is a shameless attempt to blame the failings of a deranged individual on an organization that has nothing to do with him, nor he with it.
It's called "conflation," and it's nothing more than irrational leftist (but I repeat myself) trickery.

Below are some of the more recent, local, (East New York State) deaths attributable to Minivans/SUVs. Obviously, we need to ban Minivans/SUVs because they also occasion multiple killings ...and the banning would also provide the of Greening our environment. PLEASE note that the operators of the death machines in the examples cited were in ALL case WOMEN. Perhaps the initial step for safety’s sake, should be the elimination of women divers, and then the vehicles.

Bronx Zoo Minivan Accident: Seven Killed

Seven people were killed on April 29, 2012 when a minivan lost control and plummeted over 12 feet from a Bronx River Parkway overpass, eventually coming to a halt in the Bronx Zoo, law enforcement stated. Three of the deaths derived from the one-vehicle accident were children, said spokesman of the Fire Department, Jim Long.
Three young girls, ages 12, 10, and 7, three women, ages 80, 45, and 30, and an 84-year-old man were all injured or killed in the horrible Bronx Zoo minivan crash. VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. — A memorial will be held today for the three women who were killed last summer when they were struck and killed by a minivan while standing in front of a church in Voorheesville. ……
Carol Lansing, Rose Marie Hume, and Fran Pallozzi were killed on August 10th of last year outside Saint Matthew’s Church while they were waiting to go on a guided walk with the group. Police say Luann Burgess lost control of her minivan going 46 miles per hour when she hit the women. She says her flip flop got lodged under the gas pedal.
Burgess was charged with nine counts last week, including aggravated vehicular homicide, criminally negligent homicide, driving while ability impaired, reckless driving and speeding. Toxicology results showed Burgess was taking three prescription medications for Parkinson’s disease at the time of the crash.

There is no evidence that availability of weapons causes violent behavior, but who cares when you have an antigun agenda and a closed mind. He is everything he accuses LaPierre of being.
