Milk prices may double in new year
CNN Money ^ | Dec 22, 2012

The New Year could push milk prices to $7 a gallon.

With Congress spending all its time trying to avert the fiscal cliff, a slew of other legislative matters are going unattended. One of them is the agriculture bill which, if not addressed, could lead to a doubling of the price of milk early next year.

...

Sky-high milk prices wouldn't necessarily be good for dairy farmers either, according to Chris Galen, a spokesman for the National Milk Producers Federation, which represents over 30,000 dairy farmers.

While it might provide a short term boost to profits, there's a fear that consumers would either cut back on dairy or opt for imported diary products. It could also force food makers to search for alternatives to dairy, like soy.

...

To prevent the price spike, Congress either needs to extend the current bill, pass a new bill, or enact some provision to keep the 1949 law from taking effect.

Given the current state of the fiscal cliff talks and Congress' inability to get things done in general, dairy lovers might want to stock up now.

That’s OK, milk isn’t good for you anyway.

Dumb article.

Milk prices will not double.

Instead, the of government paying half the price for everyone’s milk, the actual milk consumer will pay for the milk.

And that is the way it should be.

Farm subsidies must stop!

Ah heck we will just give them calcium pills and lots of water as we turn them into good Gaia loving vegans. I’m sure PETA will be right on this advocating that milk is bad for you.

You’d think. But then again, everybody is FOR their favorite gov’t welfare program and against everybody else’s.

Yep, not only do we have a problem with government, we have a problem with the quality of Americans, especially the hyphenated "Americans".

Milk prices have already doubled, like just about everything else while under Obama. Why should we not expect everything to double once again during the next four years?

I know I do - and I am planning for it quite honestly.

Guess it is time to buy a milk cow for the farm.

Milk is my favorite thing in the world but out of nowhere became something that nearly kills me every time I drink it...
with no warning, either. It’s not like you get a letter warning you.

I gave up on whole milk, when I discovered the great taste of Half & Half.

Why? four reasons

1. Very crappy hay growing season last year.

2. Lots of cattle selloffs because of that.

3. Corn/feed prices hikes.

4. Ethanol taking away huge percentage of feed corn crops.

It won’t for Obama.

I make a point of commenting about increased food prices to anyone that I think voted for Obama. I don’t say anything about politics, just prices are going up, but our pay isn’t or our pay is decreasing.

Stupid craps. Maybe, they will start wondering about it instead of just floating on along the sewage line.

“Guess it is time to buy a milk cow for the farm.”

Do not let the Government find out you aren’t processing that milk in accordance to all Government regulations.

Milk should be drunk by calves, not human children.
