LOS GATOS -- Carrying signs demanding "No Guns in Los Gatos" and "Protect Our Children," about 30 people picketed a new Los Gatos sporting goods store that sells firearms Saturday, the day it was supposed to open.
Former Los Gatos Mayor Sandy Decker said it appeared that Templar Sports opened briefly, but then closed in the face of the protest. No one answered the phone at the new store on University Avenue, which also offers fishing equipment.
The protest took place eight days after the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. Twenty children and seven adults died.
"The timing of it is so poor after Newtown," said Shannon Susick, a real estate appraiser who helped organize the protest. "Kids walk right by the store on their way to school. It's a safety concern."

Imagine their surprise upon entering my house uninvited.
I went over there yesterday to buy a gun and show support for a legal business. Unfortunately they were closed.
These people were incredibly I’ll informed. I spoke to them long enough to determine that they were against any gun but couldn’t articulate a rational argument why.
The Commies are emboldened.
Man I have to get out of San Jose (near Los Gatos). My timeline is to be in Arizona or Nevada by January 15. Yes, Los Gatos is a wealthy community. If gangbangers from East San Jose or East Oakland were cruising around there, they would immediately be pulled over so these people have a false sense of security. There was a rare murder in Monte Sereno next door to Los Gatos. The multimillionaire owner was killed when four men invaded his gated home. I’m sure his widow wishes they would’ve owned a gun to give them a fighting chance.
I had an interesting exchange with one man (the only guy except for a teenager from Oakland) who said his kids were scared to walk by the store. I pulled him aside and told him as a Dad, you look like a victim out here with these protesters!
I asked him if he knew that hundreds of illegals are here every day doing our lawns, fixing our fences, etc.? I also asked if he thought maybe they cased a few houses while they were in town? He admitted that they probably did. I then asked if he and I lived side by side, what would happen if those guests decided to liberate our wide screen televisions one day? At my house they would be dead. At his house they would walk out with his television, his kids, or worse. What kind of Dad does that make him? I said that is what this is about! Man up!
makes ya wonder how the nekkid people of San Fran weather the cold and rain..
No? nyeeehhh ,, me neither. pour baby pour.. it is here.. and the fireplace is glowing ..
Exactly! I enjoy using their emotional argument against them. Who will protect these protesters who by virtue of their own signs, admit that are willing victims?
Or mine.
Know it’s off topic, but your rant reminded me of my own silent rant I have when I’m in a state that when you buy any kind of liquor, you are not allowed to leave the store without it being in a bag, or even worse a 20 year old bag girl has to call the 21 year old bag boy to bag it, because it would be the end of the world if god forbid some child SAW a bottle of alcohol, or some under age kid touched glass which has C2H5OH on the other side of it.
I guess that answers the question succinctly. You walked!
I’m a native Southern Californian. I went to school at Cal Poly and my first job was with Burroughs in Santa Barbara in 1979 so I learned about the central coast in detail by living there. One of my college buddies lived up in Lompoc and worked for Martin launching missiles. Visited him several times.
Relocated to the bay area myself in 1982 following the job market (plus the rest of my college buddies.) Lived in the area ever since, so Los Gatos is old hat for me. I was there the night of 89 Quake doing Ham radio related stuff. Got a quick tour of the town the next morning. The police Dept was declared un-inhabitable and they were operating out of their parking lot! The lot was surrounded by crime-scene tape. There were several fold-up tables and white-boards on the interior.. that was it!
Anyway - the reality now-a-days is that the entire bay area is SO liberal that this just doesn’t surprise me at all. But then - I live in Alameda county home of Pete Stark ;-)
“So I guess its alright for your child to walk by an Planned Parenthood clinic on the way to school...”
They don’t have to worry about that, the School Nurse will drive them there when it’s time.
