GOP Senator Hutchison On Gun Control: Semi-Automatic Weapons And Large Clips ‘Need To Be Looked At’

Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison told Face The Nation host Bob Schieffer Sunday that she may embrace tighter regulations on high capacity magazines and semi-automatic weapons. “I think we ought to be looking at where the real danger is,” she said. “Like those large clips, I think that does need to be looked at.”

“It’s the semi-automatics and those large magazines that can be fired off very quickly,” Hutchison continued. “I think we should be looking at those mega-opportunities as one of the things that might be looked at.”

She also discussed the need to reach out to gun owners and “real hunters” to involve them in the conversation. “We need to talk to people in all areas.”

I’ m not real knowledgeable about firearms, but aren’t most modern firearms semiautomatic? And again, those who want to disarm us should begin by disarming those who protect them and their families.

I don't believe in gun control but if anything passes, it should apply equally to everyone, including police and military. If we cannot have an AR-15, then neither the police or military should have them either. If this goes far enough, we might have to reissue the Trapdoor Springfield or the .30-40 Krag.

Anybody that wants gun control is either an idiot or a hypocrite that want to keep theirs but does not want us to have them.

I lean libertarian but when it comes to the Libertarian Party, I disagree with them on foreign policy concerns as well as their lax border standards. Still there are times with the exception of some, do Republicans really represent us?

one of the many reasons we chose in Texas not to make her governor.

call me sexist, but the most conservative women in the senate would not make the bottom half of conservatives in congress.

women are just too emotional. we need more realism in our govt officials.

I am not an advocate of gun control.I have no problem with law abiding citizens owning automatic weapons. I agree, when I see the GOP “evolve” on positions, move to the left, capitulate to Democrats, and demonize the true conservatives, I realize that they no longer represent me. Until there is a viable third party, we are forced to hold our noses and vote for the lesser of two evils, ie Romney and McCain. I long for a candidate who can clearly articulate conservative ideas and have the courage to implement them. Sadly, we have not had a candidate like that in 28 years, and may nev’re see again.

‘Need To Be Looked At’

Politicalspeak for ‘we will pass a resolution or something to make it look like we care, but then it is back to business as usual.’

[Hey, Kay, the issue has been around for a century. Another law isn’t going to do much.]

She was a better choice than the Dem she was running against.

**************

That was the feeling of the Texas voters in the four races she in which she ran for Senator. She got 61-67% to the democrat opponents ranging from 32-38%.

“aren’t most modern firearms semiautomatic?”

Yes, and actually, quite a few antique firearms are automatic, because the technology is that old already.

Yes, I say good riddance from Texas. She’s been a pustulant boil on the GOP’s backside since she took office. If only Cornyn can be made to hit the road in two years and we can get a real conservative.

In repsonse to the picture of enbloc clips, YouTube has a video called “M1 Garand Ping Tribute”.

Also, as a reminder, The Washington Times, dtd 09/03/2010, reported that Obama is afraid of the M1 Garand rifle!

Long live the Republic!

Why are there not FMJ’s in those clips?

hey I am not in the military nor am I bound by the Geneva convention. if I need to defend myself and the neighborhood from interlopers...nice soft points will put them down fast....

but truth be known I have LOTS (not saying how much) of both Danish and Greek surplus, FMJ 30-06 ammo purchased specifically for my Garands...many already in en bloc clips.

I reload, but I have enough of this stuff, that when my sons hunts with his Browning Semi auto deer rifle, we pull, with a collet type puller, the 150gr. FMJ bullets out and top off the rounds with Sierra 150 grain soft points...which shoots under an inch at 100yds and has taken 2 deer including a purty 8 pointer last month....

I bought a case of .3006 in Garand clips in bandoleers about 20 years ago. They were in bandoleers with the cardboard too. My M-1 is a Winchester. Its good that its not an assault rifle.

I am a proponent of the 30-40 Krag. First, its a good weapon and second, one can obtain one and it is considered an antique and doesn’t have to be registered. 30-40 Ammo is easily purchased right now. One can get a Winchester 1895 in 30-40 also and it doesn’t have to be registered either.

It doesn't matter what Sen. Hutchison has to say. The Supreme Court has been rather clear on this issue.

Heller stated that once the American people have chosen a particular type of firearm the Government can no longer ban it.

McDonald re-iterated that and incorporated the Second Amendment onto the States.

The Seventh Circuit just ruled that Illinois' ban on concealed carry is unconstitutional because the Second Amendment has been declared by the Supreme Court to be a fundamental right guaranteed by the US Constitution and is applying First Amendment principles to their decision. First Amendment principles are basically this: They can regulate time, place, and manner but they must allow.

Simply put, the Supreme Court has spoken and the legislators can do whatever they want, but the courts will overturn it. This whole "debate" is an exercise in nothing.

Looked at Article 1, Section 9...proscription on ex post facto laws. Says Congress shall not pass...not Congress may pass, President may sign, and Courts may overturn, but SHALL NOT PASS.

It’s time she was removed from office as well as all of those who entertain the notion of any prohibition on the second amendment
