CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — To prepare for her new job as Connecticut's newest member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Elizabeth Esty went back to Harvard.

Along with 46 of her new colleagues, Esty spent four days earlier this month at the Bipartisan Program for Newly Elected Members of Congress, run by Harvard University's Institute of Politics.

Esty, who is 53, graduated from Harvard in 1981. Since then, the Democrat from Cheshire has held many titles: law clerk, attorney, stay-at-home mom, PTA member, town councilor and state representative.

What other job in the world, does one get *hired*, and then go for training/education after the fact? //rhetorical

If these congresscritters went to Hillsdale College for seminars on the Constitution ...then I'd be willing to fund this all-expenses-paid-junket. Wonder how much it cost us? Yeah Crimson!

Actually it’s pretty common. A lot of companies use your education as a indicator of basic capability but want to train you in their methods.

In any event, the Harvard part is just another sign of how the political class is “different” from you and me.

I do not want newly elected representatives indoctrinated by Harvard. It will not help them do anything except make them more inclined to please Harvard. ie,,screw America.

Can’t get enough Orwellian “double speak” and “double think” training ya know.
Some of the mandatory courses offered:
Karl, The Important Marx Brother;
Socialism is Painless if You Don’t Resist;
Pol Pot: A Hero of the Revolution;
Opponents: Relocation, Reeducation or Elimination;
Reagan Was Wrong: Government IS THE SOLUTION;
If Harvard Can Abandon Its Christian Roots, So Can You.

All class are held in the Barry Soetoro Lavatory and Michelle Obama Birthing Center

I was unaware of that. I come from a different time...old school....the days of hand shakes and chalk slates

That must be why we are still *vetting* Hussein for the job. :(

Maybe that’s where they meet with clandestine members of the CFR and the federal reserve board to find out who really runs the country.

To be sure....and the speed-dial numbers of where to get their daily *marching orders*...which I think must already come as perpetual instantaneous text alerts.

More than half her constituents will wish she disappears after she starts casting votes. I think she will be a one-term wonder, like so many rodent moonbats from the class of 2006 and 2008.

ROFLOLOL!

The New Members of Congress Conference incorporates Harvard faculty, staff, and outside experts in a multi-day event aimed at preparing the newly elected Members of Congress for, what is for many of them, their first day as legislators. Visit C-Span to watch Issues Conference for New Members, a video with speakers detailing their experiences working as congressional staff members or White House advisers, explaining the legislative process. For more information regarding the Conference, contact the director of Special Events and Conferences, Christian Flynn.

Program topics generally include:

Presenters and speakers come from the highest echelons of public life. Past speakers include:

The Program for Newly-Elected Members of Congress introduces new legislators to the skills mastered by high-level officials who have met the challenges of governing and getting things done in Washington. It gives new Members access to the most respected thinkers and practitioners in the public policy arena. And it affords new Representatives a priceless opportunity to become acquainted with their colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, in a relaxed setting away from the pressures of Capitol Hill.

Attendance at this program is by invitation only. The entire proceeding is off the record and closed to the press. Travel and lodging expenses for new Members and their spouses are paid by the Institute of Politics.

yes, this may have been the best of all possible outcomes after Greenberg lost.

I do not know if the grassroots conservatives have the appetite for another 2-year run. Hopefully the GOP state Senators will come up with somebody more mainstream GOP than Roraback. I think all 4 of the primary candidates from ‘12 will be a non-factor.

Yes, I live in the district. It’s interesting to be in a swing-district ... for a while. I may be a political drop out at this point.

I’ve had it up to here with it all. I think I can handle 4 or 5 hours per week. Maybe less than that.

I apply for C.O. status and, if that doesnt work, desertion or AWOL!

It’s a winter wonderland here. Looking forward to my eventual drive south thru Chattanooga every year. Soon.
